Help up front for the Oil?

"Sources tell TSN Theoren Fleury is attempting a comeback and wants to play in the NHL again.

After playing senior hockey last season, Fleury decided in February he was fit enough to give the NHL another try, so he hired a personal trainer and has been working diligently since.

Those close to him say he didn't leave the National Hockey League the way he wanted, which is fueling his desire to return.

The 41-year-old has been sober for almost four years and has been skating daily in Calgary in the hope that an NHL team is willing to invite him to training camp.

Interest in the former Stanley Cup champion won't be enough to clear the way for Fleury's return. He remains under indefinite suspension and would first have to be approved by the NHL and the NHLPA's Substance Abuse programs doctors before reinstatement would be considered.

Sources say Fleury recently sent NHL commissioner Gary Bettman a letter acknowledging his comeback bid and has also discussed the possibility with the leagues doctors.

At 5' 6,'' Fleury was one of the smallest players in hockey. Intense and fearless, Fleury made a name for himself for more than his stature. He could score, play defensively and lead teams to championships in junior hockey, in the NHL and on the international stage."

This evidence seems to contradict the sobriety claim
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

Ha ha.....Nylander would be a better signing at his current salary than this clown. His best days have come and gone.

I mean, unless we sign him to play in Springfield or Stockton. I might consider that....but for the Oilers? No way.

Last we saw of Fleury he was overweight, had lost his speed and had alot of monkeys on his back...

The chances of him playing in the NHL again are somewhere south of "not ever going to happen".

              Is Claude Lemeiux unavailable?

It would be a cool story though...

I know it sounds like a joke but Fleury was a great player with skill speed and a brand of nastiness. I think if he is in shape and can play any team would benefit from his play on 3rd or 4th lines and leadership.

I am sure he would sign for the league minimum and would help inspire young inexperienced players. Think of what Guy Lafleur did when he came back with The Nordiques. He only contributed 30-40 pts but according to Joe Sakic he taught the young Nordiques team to win.
Run the Ball up the gut around the horn it does not matter. We run we win what is so difficult to understand.

You have got to be kidding me. He can teach the kids how to score an OT playoff goal then skate down the ice like a baboon riding his stick, all the while motivating the opposition to win Game 7 and send Fluery and his 'mates packing.

No thanks. The only Fleury I'd like on this team is Marc-Andre.

                    I'd rather have a McFlurry.

There will be lots of flurries this winter in Edmonton but this won't be one of them.

The only lessons that Fleury could teach are lessons I'd rather not have my players learn.

While Theo will never see another game in the NHL and I grew up hating the guy with a passion he won my heart with his performance at the 2002 Olympics. I'm thinking specifically of his amazing shift in the third of the gold medal game ending with a courageous blocked shot.

It's great to hear Theo has turned his life around for good this time...
