I would be surprised if they bought out all 3. Maybe Nilsson ends up on the farm to play with Omark. I got to hand it to Tambo, he is sticking to his word and cleaning house. Definitely working on completely overhauling the culture of the room. I'm fired up!!
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

IS buying them out a smart move or could they just be sent to the minors. The reason I ask is that all three only have one year left on their contract? It would cost 2/3 of Moreau's contract and 1/3 of Neilson's (not sure which one O'Sullivan falls into). They could bury them in the minors, no cap hit and just let them go at the end of the season.

That's the owners call I guess. The buyout amounts for all 3 guys end up roughly 1.6 mil this season and 1.3 next season.

Not like Katz needs the money. I was just wondering from a hockey prespective though. That is cap room that could be used to get someone else, or help with re upping someone this year.

Two schools of thought here, buying them out is the player friendly thing to do in my mind as it frees them up to play in the NHL with another team next year probably.

I could see Nilsson contributing in the minors but not the other two. O'Sully really lost interest the 2nd half of last year and you want Moreau no where near the team this year.

In the end a buy out is probably best for all three.

POS and Nillson could certainly help out in OK City, but what their attitudes be like? We don't want them to be moody and pouty and foul the waters for the younger up and coming players.

I could see buying out Moreau, just out of justure for his years with the team. The other two though it just seems to make more sense to bury them some where and save the cap space.

According to LeBrun; all three have been bought out. I suspect the $3.0 million raise in the cap made this decision far easier then it would have been otherwise.

My question is, if you can't trade them, what else do you have to do? IMO if you look at all 3 guys as players you don't feel has a place on your team, why would you keep them. PLus you don't disrespect Moreau by trying to bury him in the minors. By buying Moreau out, he gets most of his money plus in all likelihood he will sign for around 1 mill with a team and end up making as much if not more money.
You don't keep them on the team until their contracts run out, that is taking up 3 spots tha other player you want to either develop or have on your team for another year.
Its no secret that Tambo has been shopping these guys since well before the last trade deadline, I think he as done all he can. I don't think the team had another choice IMO.

I agree 100%. Sending them all to the minors is a slap in the face, especially to Moreau. Plus as you mentioned, I sure as hell don't want Nilsson and O'Sullivan being examples of the young guys even on the farm.

Don't get me wrong I would buy Moreau out, he is a long serving member of the team, and now, a former captain. He has earned the chance from the Oilers to find another place to play for next year. CAll the buyout his golden handshake.

The other two I am not as sold on buying them out. Yes they could be cancers down in OC. Then again they could also help that franchise out, and maybe increase their value in a trade. Remember there was not a lot of talent in the minors last year, so if they can get some guys to help the franchise out then I say do it. Teh players could also see this as a slap to improve their game, so they can get back to the show, because I honestly do not see a lot of interest in them going forward.

Agreed. There are 3 reasons to send Nilsson and POS to the minors:

                            1. Get them and their over-inflated salaries off the books.
                            2. Provide talent for the farm team and an incentive for both to play well, work hard and possibly get a contract from another NHL team next season. Also sends them a message that their efforts here in the past 2 season were not good enough.
                            3. They could provide call-up insurance in case of injury to the Oil during the season. Also they provide trade value at the trading deadline in 2011.

IMO, I doubt Nilsson or POS goes to the minors fired up and looking to prove anything. They are lazy and unmotivated in NHL, I doubt riding buses and staying at less than 5 star hotels will suddenly light the fire in them. If anything, I'm guessing they will just sulk.
