Oilers Rookies Kick Off Season in Penticton...

    ... with a win.

Magnus Paajarvi is a special hockey player.

Taylor Hall may be more flashy, Jordan Eberle may be more famous, but Magnus Paajarvi is just plain special.

Everything he does is a high percentage play.

He's fast, he's big, he's strong, and his hands are stupid fast.

Oh, and he plays a two-way game.

Tonight he was dominate on the boards, effective with the puck, scored a couple goals, and could have had 10 points. Easily the best player on the ice.

He'd go #4, at worst, in a re-draft at this point.

Hall, Eberle, Pitick, Hartikainen, Roy and all of the defenseman looked good.... but Paajarvi looked like he was in a league of his own out there.
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Sounded like a great night for the young guns. Roy, supposedly played a very good game between the pipes.
Hope, at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are

I didn't like his game too much actually. Nucks hit multiple posts, and he didn't look "big" in the net, if you know what I mean. The one goal he allowed was pretty weak.

Thanks for the update... Was this televised or something?

In any event, I am glad the MPS was so good, but frankly, he BETTER have been good. He's been playing, what, a few years with Men in Sweden. If he hadn't dominated some juniors, then THAT would have been the bigger story.

Streamed online at the Oilers website. They play again on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.

Paajarvi is still one of the youngest players there... and a lot of the guys have been playing in the AHL/NCAA.

I'm being fed reports from someone in Penticton who is taking in the action. Paajarvi was all-world yesterday.

PDO, I hate your thread title. I wish you hadn't used the words kick off. It reminds me of football. Thanks for nothing.

I thank the lord that the Leafs picked Kadri, Dallas picked Glennie and the Sens picked Cowen before us.

Pretty much... unbelievably lucky. I felt MP was a top 5 pick long before he fell to us.

Let's see if these guys get the coaching they need this year.

Plante injured... ****. Really hope it's not bad, but it's becoming a consistent problem with him after a strong season a year ago...

MPS should be ahead of the game compared to Eberle and Hall. He's been playing with men in Sweden for 2 years in the SEL. The Oil are very lucky to have him, as it was said before, he should've been a top 5 pick. Definitley reminds me of Peter Forsberg combined with Mike Gartner.

That's only until the regular season with the Oilers starts. Then he looks like every other "supposedly" good player they have acquired lately - he completely forgets how to play hockey.
Maciocia, Hall, Strasser, Hairston and Thorpe are finally all gone. The rest will take care of itself.

Good luck Kavis Reed and the rest of the Esks' new coaching staff!
