    Stortini an embarassment

What a joke last night was against the Stars and that was in the form of Zack. Gets into a fight and continues to hug then throws up a blocker and tries to block the countless punches he is receiving. Now lets talk about his lack of hockey skills, no wait, we don't have that much time. Zack, while your at it, shave and cut your hair because you look absolutely foolish out there. Time to cut the ties with this player and move on.
Guys with his lack of skill are a dime a dozen.

Unless you are KLowe, then they are a few million a dozen.

The Oilers bottom 6 are a sorry mess. That's got to be the number one priority in the off-season.

        Is it really?

        We have 8 of the top 9 set, with the 9th likely being a lottery pick in Landeskog, Couturier or RNH (4, 10, 14, 23, 27, 83, 89, 91).

I'll bet good money that one of Lander or Pitlick is is the #4 C.

That leaves two winger spots. One SHOULD be Reddox... but either way... there's really not much to do down there other than get rid of dead weight (Brule, Cogliano, Fraser, Jacques, Smac...)
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

I don't want Reddox in the Oilers bottom 6. The last thing they need is another undersized guy playing 3rd or 4th line minutes. They need size, they are way to easy to push around.

I do agree, Stortini is a joke. So is Jacques. They are in the NHL because they have some size and they can bang bodies. They don't do that so guess what, they will be out of a job.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

How can you say that the bottom 6 isn't a mess when you just named at least 5 guys here (who play in the bottom 6) that you say need to go?

Here is one thing I question. Why do you mentione Big Mac? They don't let him play so how is the mess of the bottom 6 his doing. I am hoping the Oilers play him in the bottom 6 for the rest of the year. At least he would know his role. I got no clue what role Stortini and Jacques think they have. The don't do much of anything out there.

I would love this team to grab a Tootoo, Cooke or Ott. Someone who plays on the edge of dirty, can throw hellacious hits and only fights on a few specific occasions. That is far more of a deterrent to the other team taking shots against the kids than Smac is. I'd love if Stortini could turn into that player but he seems to think he needs to fight every player who challenges him.

I'd also prefer to bring in an experienced 4th line centre as opposed to a raw rookie.

Best deterrent, imo, is a killer power play. It's not that I don't enjoy a good hockey fight but 1 tough guy beating up, or not, another tough guy is not a deterrent. It can be a momentum swing but never a deterrent.

Like him, or lump him, Stortini is one of very, very few Oilers who seems willing to stand up for his teammates.
Maciocia, Hall, Strasser, Hairston and Thorpe are finally all gone. The rest will take care of itself.

Good luck Kavis Reed and the rest of the Esks' new coaching staff!

Maybe so, but nobody else seems willing to do it consistently.

I wouldn't calling it standing up so much as cowering and turtling with the occasional hug thrown in. He's not a deterrent in most cases he's an opposition's punching bag who basically gives the other team energy and momentum by being beat up.

Neither Stortini nor Jacques should be in the NHL. The fact that they made the team at the beginning of the year when Omark didn't is what gave Omark a right to be pissed. Sure, Omark is small, and therefore somewhat wasted on the third or fourth line, but Stortini and Jacques completely waste our fourth line any way, so I'd rather have someone that can play and is trying to earn a higher spot, as opposed to guys who have no business being in the NHL wasting a roster spot simply because of their size.
