Thomas Vokoun and swap of picks?

Rumors are flying around about the Oilers and the Panthers (3rd overall) swapping picks with the Oilers picking up the rights to Thomas Vokoun. Trade dependent on if Vokoun signs with the Oil...very preliminary at the moment.

Coming from Dallas Dave who is connected and is usually right.

    Thoughts?

I like Vokoun but this would be a disaster. Trust Tambo to **** it all up.

That would be the stupidest thing they could do. Take the player you want.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

Same guy says "undesirable" salary could be headed to Florida as well. Khabibulin is the obvious answer there.

I don't know what to think.... 1. We have the top pick. 2. We have Boozin. Getting rid of him and still getting a good pick is good.. very good. But it comes off like the Oil don't really know who they will take - and going this route - while it does solve a big issue - makes me feel like they want to leave it up to another team to determine their pick. Like the Oil dont know what to do and want someone else to decide for them...

Vokoun would be an upgrade in goal and I am not against trading down in the drafft if it is the right deal. The Oilers do not need another smallish forward, but they do need help on the backend. IF this goes through look for Habbi to be playing in the KHL next season.

The upgrade for Boozy to Vokoun would be mammoth.

Combine it in with the rumored Smyth trade and we'd be two top 4 D away from legitimately contending for a playoff spot.

                IF they add the D.

I don't like this one bit. OK to swap Vokoun for Boozybulin, but also to swap #1 pick for #3 makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Especially if the Oil can't sign Vokoun before the draft on Friday......

Keep in mind Vokoun is UFA in 10 days.

True, but where else is he going to go? Who else needs a #1?

There's also getting out from under the Boozy contract.

Regardless, you'd have to know he was going to sign before you pulled the trigger.

I think you'd be looking at Huberdeau or Couturier, without an outside shot at Larsson.

                      Awfully tempting.

Right but my point is you can take RNH and STILL get Vokoun 10 days from now.

Obviously the Khabby contract is an issue, but I think it would be a disaster to lose out on RNH to cover up an error made 2 years ago.

Agreed. Take RNH, have him go back to junior, and maybe a half season of the AHL and have him come under the wings of the current crop of greenhorns

Vokoun's rights are a minor issue in all of this.. the big deal is actually getting rid of Bulin. That said; buying him out probably makes more sense now than trying to peddle him off of the roster at the expense of an asset like the #1.

I'd also agree with Diez about sending back RNH if he is the selection. Lord knows we're wasting at least the first two cheap years of Hall and Eberle, no point wasting the first year of RNH as well.
