    2013-14 Oil Kings Thread

For those of us who like consistently winning hockey in Edmonton.

Oil Kings are currently in top spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference. They're third overall in the league behind the Portland Winterhawks and the Kelowna Rockets.

It's amazing how they've consistently been able to stay towards the top of the pile every year for the last few years now, particularly considering all of the player turnover they've gone through.

Next game is tomorrow night vs. the Tri-City Americans.

    GO KINGS GO!
Keep an open mind, and you never know who might walk in...

    RIP Pizmo

The real test will be next year, when they lose Lazar, Samuelsson, Moroz and Reinhart.

They'll also lose Cody Corbett, an American defensemen who's had back-to-back 40+ point seasons and is in the Minnesota Wild's system last I checked.

That'll be interesting to see how they do next season.
All of Bob Green's work and drafting will come to light next year as, after having top picks, we'll get to see just how good he is at drafting.

Bob Green is no longer the GM of the Kings.....

No but he did the majority of the drafting we will see for the next year or two. Randy Hansch is very capable of following in Greens shadow and drafting well too.

Oil Kings beat the Americans 3-1 last night all on goals in the 2nd period. That's now their seventh straight win, and their 13th win in 14 games. Talk about dominance!

Speaking of dominance, Oilers draft pick Mitch Moroz continues to have an impressive season. His stats so far (which include an assist from last night):

              27 Goals

              51 Points

              +29

              116 PIM

I was one of the many Oilers fans who initially did a facepalm when Moroz was selected; however, he's been really shutting down the doubters this year. Moroz has already doubled his career-high for goals in a season, and he'll likely double his career-high in points by the time playoffs begin. Can't wait to see what'll happen if he makes the jump next year.

He needs a full year in the AHL vs. men, at least. Maybe two.

But he did most of the drafting of players the past few years before Hansch took over.

Like Section N said, Hansch is very capable and he learned under one of the best so I'm not too concerned.

Oil Kings won their ninth straight tonight in a 4-1 victory over Kamloops. The PK went 8/8 and they got two shorthanded goals as well.

Oil Kings have now won 10 STRAIGHT thanks to a 3-2 Shoot-out win over the top-ranked Kelowna Rockets. This team just keeps on rolling and rolling.

Oil Kings broke their two game losing skid by obliterating the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a 12-0 smoker. That's a new franchise record for most goals in a game.

Btw, Moroz had 5 points (2G) yesterday to hit 30G on the season. He's really become an effective power forward this year.

Problem is he is a man playing with boys. Whether he can maintain that level of production in the AHL or NHL is the key issue. Hope he can for the Oilers sake.
