Oil Kings beat the Rebels 7-4 and are now regular season conference champions for the third season in a row. Hard to believe that they were the Oilers of the WHL only a few years ago.

They may be again soon if today's game is anything to go off of. Most of the first-line/senior guys took a press box seat and the OKs were obliterated by an admittedly desperate Red Deer team 5-0. They took somewhere in the area of 35 minutes to get their 10th shot on net - while giving up IIRC 24 to RD in the 1st period alone - and the final shots were 38-20.

Losing and being competitive without the stars is one thing, but to lay down an egg like that - on Fan Appreciation Night no less - doesn't bode well.

And if the Rebels win their tiebreaker game against Prince Albert, of course they draw Edmonton in the first round...and IIRC the Oil Kings had the worst record against Red Deer out of all of the playoff teams (3 wins from 6 games). Bartosak has already stolen a couple from them this year. Probably the worst matchup they could've had in the first round.

Yeah, I heard the game on the radio and was unimpressed. It's because of games like yesterday that I'm suspecting a short, painful playoff run this year. The Kings have struck me as just too noncommittal this year and trying to get by on talent rather than effort. Yeah, they did get 50 wins, but the second half of the season, they've been ludicrously inconsistent and unmotivated on certain nights. I hope against hope that this issue doesn't carry into the postseason.

I was at the game, and speaking to a few STH, they appreciated the fact that the coach took the time to rest the veteran players, and especially amongst those, Tristan Jarry. They knew the situation the team was in after the win in Red Deer the night before, and it's a chance for some 16 year olds, and other rookies to get a real taste of a desperate team in the Rebels, and a look at what the league could actually be about.

Regardless of who wins the tiebreaker game tonight, the Kings will move on after round one. And to be honest, they'll hope its Red Deer. Less travel, and could have up to a week off before round 2 depending on how the games shake out.

Oil Kings defeated the PA Raiders today 5-3 in Game 1 of the EC semi final at Rexall. Very good game, with some great goaltending from Cheveldave of PA in relief. Shaping up to be a great series.

Oil Kings start their series with Brandon by getting a 5-0 shutout win. The scary thing about the win is that the score actually flatters the Wheat Kings. Edmonton outshot Brandon 45-15 and managed 12+ shots in each period. You know it's a dominant performance when the opposing netminder makes 40 saves and still loses the game.

Also, Brett Pollock gets a goal and an assist. I wouldn't mind using a later round draft choice on him if he's available for the Oilers' taking.

Oil Kings win 3-0 in Game 2. They now have a 2-0 series lead, with back-to-back shutouts to boot.

Oil Kings win 5-2 tonight on the road in Brandon, and take a 3-0 series lead. Going to get another good rest before round 3.

Love how they capitalized twice on the powerplay. That's really what's been allowing them to do so well this postseason.

Brandon avoided the sweep last night so Game 5 will go Friday at 7 PM at Rexall. Watching Game 4 on WHL Live I noticed that even though the young Wheaties were full value for the win, the officiating somehow managed to be evan more brutal than usual. Even the Wheat Kings broadcasters admitted a goal the Oil Kings got shouldn't have been disallowed.

Call me crazy, but I think a loss might be the best thing for them. It'll keep them from thinking they're invincible and will hopefully inspire them even more for next game.

The other issue is that Brandon's goalie is just smoking hot right now. I'm not sure what more the Kings can do to crack him.

I agree. Same for the Rush. It wouldn't be the worst thing if they lost a game before the playoffs.

Just so long as it's not tomorrow against Calgary. If there's 1 thing in life I can't handle, it's 1 of my teams losing to a Calgary team!
