    If he performs in preseason and the first 9 games, he'll be an Oiler this year.
    For all the reasons why you said we should have taken Bennett instead. I want him to go back and polish his game, work on his first step, and dominate at that level the same way Nurse did last year and will again this year most likely.

      I completely agree.

      But he will be in the top 9.

        I don't disagree. But if he's NHL ready and can help the team now, I'm not sure there is a downside. Didn't seem to hurt Hall or RNH. And for all the talk that Gagner was rushed, he's still second in points from his draft year which isn't bad for a 6th overall pick.

        I'm not sure you can say "because Oilers" for this. 5 of last year's top 6 played in the NHL.

          Even if he's "NHL ready" a year back in junior would be more beneficial to the player he will be 3 years from now than playing him in Edmonton in 2014.

                How can you say "Gagner is awful" just because a player is struggling does not mean "he's awful". He has loads of skill and in the right environment can flourish, keep in mid the guy is only 24!

                    It's a pretty good trade, Purcell is a lot better defensively. At least actually traded him for an NHL player. Remember when we traded Cogliano, a proven NHL player for a 2nd rounder?! That sums up why the Oilers have been so and recently, trading away assets for nothing.

                            Only thing that makes me question it is that he already had the shoulder injury. The stupid thing was not having him get the surgery much more quickly.

                              Yep, should have got the shoulder fixed, sent him back, and staggered his contract better. It's not like anyone outside the sOiler long noses didn't think they weren't going to be welded to the basement anyways
