A closer look at a few of Rollie the Goalies losses this year:

4 goals on 40 shots against VAN, loss
1 goal on 53 shots against CBJ, loss
2 goals on 30 shots against VAN, loss
3 goals on 42 shots against CGY, loss
2 goals on 46 shots against NAS, loss
2 goals on 39 shots against NYR, loss
3 goals on 30 shots against BUF, loss
3 goals on 31 shots against ANA, loss

Maybe the reason for the 6-17 record is that he gets no support from the offense. The only bad games I see are a 6 goals on 34 shots performance against Ottawa and a 4 goals in 14 shots performance against Colorado.

Roloson wasn't the ideal choice in my opinion but considering that the Oilers weakened a division rival without giving up a roster player, Lowe made a good deal.

KLowe said during the conference that he got the impression from Phoenix that Cujo wasn't available as they think they can make a run and Florida wasn't looking to trade Luongo. We would probably have to give up a lot more for Biron so I dont know who that leaves that we could realistically get.

I was hoping somebody would bring that up. I didn't want to have to do it myself.


Overall, I'm pretty happy with this trade. I can't imagine the Oilers could have gotten anyone better/younger without giving up a player off the roster. And we all know Buffalo was asking for the moon for any of their goalies. (But Biron was the guy I really wanted...)

Roloson is a proven guy and I know he's going to help the Oilers. I can't imagine Lowe is going to try to package him up to get Raycroft or somebody esle. My guess is that this is the team they're going with. They make a minor move tonight or tomorrow, but it would probably be nothing more than swapping third line guys.
Personally, I'd like to see something like giving up Tarnstrom or Bergeron and a prospect for a guy like Brendan Witt. I love our forwards right now, but I think a defence that had Pronger/Smith/Witt/Staois/Spacek and either MAB or Tarnstrom could be devastating to play against.

Without giving up any offensive talent, or any talent for that matter, this is probably the best that you could expect. And to pull it off in your own conference isn't too shabby.

I think this guy is capable of getting the Oilers into the playoffs, and maybe even winning a series or two. This year he's faced an average of 31.6 shots per game, and still has a .910 save %, currently good enough for 13 overall, not bad considering he's 36 and in the autumn of his career.

Compare those numbers to our (formerly) 'best' goalie (statistically anyway) MM. GP- 21, Avg shots per game- 24.3, S%- .884.

I don't put any stock into GAA, or even wins in this case. DR played for a crappy team the last 4 seasons, and argueably, has never played on any contender. Obviously, he's not a long term solution to their problems, but he is definately better than any of our current goaltenders.

I really like this trade. We didnt have to give up anything, with our D and giving up so few shots, he will do great. Get a second line winger and we are set.
