    Re: Sam Gagner

Diesel: Just like he sucked the offense out of Ales Hemsky? Nothing wrong with making our players good hockey players instead of Kozlov clones.

Hemsky has way more offensive talent than what his numbers have come out to be. Sucking the offensive life out of other offenseive players is like giving your one true star a row boat and one oar.

I soooo wish that MacT wasn't the coach of the Oilers.

As for not getting the most out of offensive players.

Torres and Lupul last year at the very least.

For years, the Oilers supposedly have had some "offensive talent" and yet for years, we are one of the lower scoring teams in the league. Every year we're saying that a bunch of the players aren't living up to their potential. If we have the talent, but aren't scoring the goals, something needs to change with the coaching. You can't win if your scorers turn into defensive players - no goals = no wins.

Torres has a pretty reasonable year that stayed in line with the rest of his years. A bit of an off year, but he's the same guy who scored 29 playing for MacT. He's never shown any reason to believe he could have more than 50 points in a season.

Lupul was trash. That's on Kevin Lowe for bringing in the player who A) clearly didn't fit in with this team (RH shot on a Hemsky run PP from the LW... genius!) and B) was clearly not a very good player.

How could MacTavish get more from Ales Hemsky? He lets him play the game anyway he wants to. He gives him quality line mates and PP time (though, I want to see him getting more... 1:30 of every PP. Kovalchuk treatment). What else can he do? Do you want him to play like Rick Nash? Lead the team in scoring while being the worst player on the team?

Or they all produced more offense than was ever expected out of any of them under MacT.
