No one really cares about Volleyball in North America as a major sport I think.

I think football (soccer) is the most popular world wide sport.

Table Tennis is up there surprisingly.

American style football is nowhere to be seen.

I have a hard time believing it's not soccer... I suspect what qualified as a "participant" was not a uniform criteria for all sports.

Amazing what one finds when they read the entire page....

FIVB claims nearly 1billion people play volleyball in the world. One out of every six people. That's really interesting... When questioned, they backed off that statement to say that there are 33 million registered players, but that there are many more than that who are recreational players (obviously, but not 1 billion...). They also stated that there are definitely not four times the amount of volleyball players as soccer players in the world, which basically refuted their initial statement.

The world should be playing the schoolyard variety we played in elementary school... we incorporated parts of all sorts of other sports...

Multiple balls, full body contact (even away from the ball, actually, especially away from the ball), you could catch it and run with it but only for three steps or less... rain, shine, snow or sleet and the teams consisted of whomever came out for recess.

It was great... until we got a new principle and she thought it was barbaric tsk tsk. Especially bad since she came when I got to sixth grade... finally after years of being on the receiving end I was going to be the one inflicting the pain only to have the privledge taken away
