    Crazy F1 Crash in Qualifying Today - Massa

    So a spring from another F1 car slams into Massa's head. He is subsequently knocked out (or at least stunned) as you can see his hands don't move and his car continues head on into the tire wall.

    Massa was airlifted to the hostpital and underwent surgery for a fractured skull.

      Amazing. What are the chances of something like that? Let's pray for his health. That sort of injury can be unpredictable.

      I'm actually flying to Budapest tomorrow. Hope all the racing tourists will have moved on by then.

          Where would something that big come from? and how was it so high in the air? There didn't seem to be any other cars around...

            Yeah, that's really perplexing

            And anything that could remain airborne long enough like that would surely also be a real danger to the fans too

              Brawn F1 has said it was a spring that came off the back of Rubens Barrichello's car.

                You can't even see the car in the shot though......how bizarre.

                      Very unlucky. Reminds me of the death in F2 a week or so back, a tire fell off one guys car and hit the guy behind him in the head. I think that killed him instantly, hopefully Massa recovers and is able to have a regular life.

                        was it tossed up high? like Opus said, you can't even see the car in the frame so there must have been some space between them. In order for it to stay airborne I suspect it would have been launched up high....

                        Any word on how Massa is doing? I heard it was pretty serious....

                          Last I heard, he is in life-threatening but stable condition. Apparently he had multiple skull fractures.
