    DDS vs. Numberz 2008

I guess this is our official campaign thread. Actual poll to be added at a time not now.

BTW, I need a campaign manager. Whoever it is will have the title of President after I win.

I see that my opponent is already pre-judging the outcome. Clearly arrogant. And he wants to begin the patronage appointments before the vote. Shameful.

I see that my opponent thinks that our children should take a back seat in today's society in favour of cats. Is that someone you really want as Prime Minister?

This is correct. However, your opponent also believes stay-at-home mothers should have the same advantages as those that drop their kids off at daycare.

Clearly my opponent does not take the position of Prime Minister seriously. And seems to hate small furry domesticated animals. Trustworthy? I think not.

Already these politicians are at each other's throat...

Argh, why don't they realize that the average voter doesn't care about the petty arguments of politicians, and that we want real answers and real solutions to real problems?

Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

Also we need a separatist view. Rider TD? Bastinado?

I'm the only one here that I'm aware of who has any experience as a candidate. I can smell bullsheet so tell me why I should vote for either of you.

This result doesn't matter anyway as a few weeks after the election Diesel, Opus and I are going to mount a hostile takeover, so enjoy office while you can.

Here's what can I happen. As a vBookie, I can create an event with two options: 1) Numberz wins 2) Numberz doesn't lose....both paying at 20:1 odds.

You put money down on either one. If I win, then they pay out, if I don't then, then neither pays out. You vote for me to increase your chances of having that pay out.

                            ...and there you go.

                              DDS 08!!!

                              The DDS Campaign Platform

                              The Economy and Taxation

As Prime Minister I would ensure the continuing economic viability of Canada by not just acting to guide us through the current crisis, but guaranteeing future prosperity. My measures would include:

                              - Quadruple the tax credit for the purchase of fuel efficient cars and update the criteria to be more consistent.
                              - Ensuring that automakers who produce fuel efficient vehicles receive tax reductions on a scale based on the average fuel efficiency of every vehicle produced.
                              - Automakers who present a line of fuel efficient vehicles will qualify for limited government assistance to recover from the economic crisis.
                              - Rescue the Canadian portions of the pension plans of automakers who do not survive the next 5 years.
                              - Increase the personal exemption to $25,000. Let’s face it, if you make less than $25,000 you can’t afford to pay taxes.
                              - Introduce full income splitting.
                              - Double the Universal Childcare Benefit to $200 per month.
                              - Begin a 10-year, $100 Billion “Building the New Canada” infrastructure program focusing on funding for municipal roads and transit, as well as upgrades to the Trans-Canada Highway.
                              - Enshrine in legislation that all taxes collected on fuels must be spent on transportation infrastructure.
                              - Eliminate the tax on inheritance.
                              - Eliminate the tax on capital.
                              - Ensure the revenue for new projects by introducing a tax of $1.00 on consumption of pop culture. This will add $1.00 to the cost of movies, CDs, DVDs, video games, cable and internet bills, magazines and books.

                              The Environment

The world is warming up. We must do our part to prevent the end of the world as we know it. Even though other countries like the USA, Russia, China and India continue to behave as if global warming is fiction, Canadians know it is real. We will set the example for others to follow. My measures would include:

                              - Mandatory minimum fuel efficiency standards to be phased in over 5 years. By the end of the fifth year it will be illegal to produce a non-commercially used vehicle that has a fuel efficiency of more than 8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city.
                              - Replace the Homeowners Retrofit Grant Program with a direct tax credit of 20%. This would mean that you submit your receipts from the purchase of home retrofits like new insulation, windows, doors and furnaces, and reduce your taxable income by 20% of the amount you spent.
                              - Mandatory CO2 reductions on industry, phased in over a 10 year period. This would mean that all industries would have 10 years to bring their CO2 emissions down by 50%. If they miss their target, the fines will begin at $10,000,000. If they have not complied with a year, the fine doubles. This formula will remain in perpetuity.
                              - Ensuring that transit is a major aspect of the Building the New Canada program.

                              Crime and Justice

As Prime Minister it would be my duty to ensure the protection of Canada’s citizens. This must be balanced with a compassionate approach to rehabilitation that works.

                              - Mandatory life sentences without parole for pedophiles.
                              - Mandatory sentences of 15 years for aggravated sexual assault.
                              - Introduce mandatory education and treatment programs for all incarcerated inmates.
                              - Mandatory sentences of 10 years for crimes involving theft over $1,000.
                              - Legalize and tax marijuana immediately, but increase fines and sentences for more serious substances.
                              - Mandatory 15 year sentence for selling narcotics to a minor.
                              - Mandatory 15 year sentences for violent crimes involving firearms.
                              - Enshrine in legislation that corporate CEOs and board members will be held personally accountable for corporate acts of fraud and environmental law. This would include forfeiture of bonuses, fines, and jail time. Defrauding employees would carry a minimum of 15 years in prison.

                              Social Policy

Canada should be an inclusive country where people of different races, religions are not persecuted for their beliefs. However, not every belief is acceptable. Measures would include:

                              - Work in consultation with leaders of religious groups to add statutory holidays to our calendar so that Judaism, Islam and Aboriginal religions are represented. These, in addition to our current holidays based on Christian traditions, would be enshrined in legislation.
                              - Amend both the marriage act and divorce act to adequately reflect that while both heterosexual and homosexual marriage are protected, that marriages and social unions between more than two people are banned explicitly.
                              - It is time for integration between Canada’s aboriginals and the rest of Canada. It will be declared in legislation that all Canadians, including aboriginals are equal under the law.
                              - Acknowledge the importance of parenting and choice by implementing income splitting in the tax code and doubling the Universal Childcare benefit.

                              Constitutional Amendments

Canada’s institutions are broken. The time has come once and for all to fix them. My measures would include:

                              - A constitutional amendment to integrate Canada’s aboriginal population with the rest of Canada.
                              - Vigorous negotiation to bring Quebec fully into Canada as an equal Province, and signed onto the constitution. Should these negotiations fail, I will hold a referendum in every Province but Quebec that will determine if Quebec should be removed from the confederation by the rest of Canada.
                              - A constitutional amendment that would abolish the Senate.
                              - A constitutional amendment that would see to the election of the Governor General to a fixed term of 4 years.
                              - A constitutional amendment fixing election dates at 4 year intervals.

                              Parliamentary Amendments

Canada’s House of Commons is an institution that is outdated and in need of modernization. My measures would include:

                              - Amendments to the Standing Orders of the House of Commons eliminating confidence votes. This would ensure that the House of Commons would not be held hostage. It would also ensure that electoral brinkmanship is eliminated. MPs would be free to vote without the fear of causing an election.
                              - MP salaries and benefits would be indexed to inflation, with no other means to be increased.
