Horrible way to start the weekend. This kind of stuff isn't supposed to happen here. So very scary, and sad.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who have passed.

This has really upset me.

I am a U of A grad and my daughter is a student at the U of A as well and often walks in that HUB mall area. Thank God she is not there for the summer but my heart goes out to the families of these poor people who were only doing a job. Yet another example of why we need to bring back the death penalty.

heard them mention that someone said it looks like like an inside job. The 4 victims where 3 trainees/temps and a supervisor, and the 2nd armor car found in the Eastend industrial park leads them to believe i was an inside job

EDMONTON - Police have released a photo of a “person of interest” in a robbery attempt early Friday that killed three armoured truck personnel and critically wounded a fourth at the University of Alberta’s HUB Mall.

A massive manhunt has been launched for Travis Brandon Baumgartner, 21, of Sherwood Park, the fifth of five employees of G4S Cash Solutions Canada who were making a delivery at ATMs late Thursday. He’s believed to be driving a dark-blue Ford F-150 truck with Alberta licence plate ZRE 724, but anyone who sees Baumgartner is urged to immediately call police rather than approach him.

Tactical units and police dog teams searched backyards in a Sherwood Park neighbourhood Friday where Baumgartner’s family is believe to live.

A resident on a nearby street said police had been there since 10 a.m. this morning.

Portions of the road remained blocked of just afternoon noon on Friday.

Early Friday, police received reports of gunshots at HUB, a combined residence and shopping mall that runs the length of several blocks along 112th Street.

Prasun Kundu, who lives on the third floor of the Hub, said he was watching a movie at around midnight when he heard gunshots.

“I heard bang, bang noises out of my window,” said Kundu. After three or four seconds, he heard five or six shots.

“I came down the stairs and looked through the window. There was a man groaning and I heard him ... asking for help but I could not see him down there.”

Kundu said at first, he couldn’t see the man because he was behind a security door next to the ABM machine. When officers arrived, they broke down the door and pulled out two bodies, Kundu said. The bodies were dressed in what looked like security guards’ blue uniforms.

“It was really scary, when first they pulled one dead body, a woman, she was dead. Then they pulled out another one, then the (wounded) man who was groaning.”

It’s thought to be the deadliest armoured car incident in Alberta history.

“We are dealing today with what can only be described as a horrific act of violence,” Chief Rod Knecht told a Friday morning news conference, saying the shootings just after midnight were not a random act.

Though his involvement is not clear, Baumgartner is described as a “person of interest,” and Knecht said he has been the subject of “intense investigation” that began early Friday.

Three of the employees — two men and a woman — were shot inside the building during the delivery. The fourth, a man, was shot outside.
