It's not his fault they count different in rider land it also explains the phantom mass of fans that attend every other teams stadium but not their own park.

Now now, lets not get on his case. After all, he does cheer for the Riders, that's punishment enough dont you think?
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

        Let's run down the list....

Re-sign all the same crappy QBs as last year......check
No improvements to the same old less than stellar receiving core.....check
        Lose your #1 running weapon....check
Sign a HC that couldn't keep a job as an OC on a team with some of the potent weapons in the league.....check

Yup, everything is looking great from where I'm sitting.....
That's funny since, 1) Training camp has yet to start and you have no idea what players will bring into camp be that QB or Receivers. 2) KK has yet to leave. 3) Toronto had IMO the worst combination of QBs in the league.

Granted I'm not really sold on Austin either, but I am willing to support him. He doesn't get the same time Danny got because when Danny came the team was horrible, it needed to be built from scratch. This team is good and just needs to add a few things here. Just as long as Austin makes the playoffs this year, and has a home playoff game the following year (or grey cup). He can stay for the entire 3 years of his contract

But if you want to diss someone before he even starts then go for it.Myself I think he will do a great job at least as good as Higgins and Muchchoka... but then I don't have a crystal ball either.
I'm not debating anything regarding CC or Neddy. That is not the discussion, remember your bone of contention was to Diesels comment regarding the running game. I have had serious issue with the lack of rushing attempts we've had here for the better chunk of 3 years now.

What those stats show are like Gizmo said above, the Argos after Austin ran the ball more than when he was there. If you want to look at the record as well it wasn't until Austin left that they started to run the ball again and win. Allen was back two games before Austin was dumped. it also showed that while he must have known the way to effectively use a back like Williams (see games 1 & 3) he refused to do it the rest of the way.

I'll also counter that if the problem was Wynn was not getting the job done passing the ball, what OC worth his salt doesn't then lean on his former pro-bowl running back? If your aerial game is stuggling would you keep passing the ball more? If your starting QB is on the shelf, would you not give the ball to your biggest offensive weapon at your disposal and play a game that can give you success?

I guess you think I'm dissing him already.....whatever. frankly, I can't apss judgement on him as a HC as he has yet to put together a body of work in that spot, but I can certainly critique him as an OC and in that respect he failed miserably in 2006. If one translates to the other, I feel very comfortable with him coaching the Riders. Very comfortable .

As long as ther Rider fans are happy with Kent Austin as HC, I'm happy for them. I like their dedication to the team no matter how stupid it looks from the outside. God bless you Rider fans.

The reaction at work today was hilarious. My boss is pissed right off. Another co-worker practically had a swelled head and a chubby all day cause he was so ecstaitic over the hiring of Kunt Austin.

Thanks. Predictions like this worked out so well for you last year too didn't they? Who finished last with Macciocca? Who kept Maccioca? And you want to talk about locking up the basement?

I think this is a good move. It's a move to a guy who has won at different levels and is hungry for his own team.

Remember, Austin won a GC with Argos as their OC and Avery still had 200+ rushes that year (plus swing passes etc). I'm not worried about KK losing touches, Austin, as he has said, will work with the talent he has.

While the Riders may not finish last, they'll give us a good run for our money.

Re: Austin Riders New Head Coach

In fairness to Rider management, I think Kents hiring came about through a horrible misunderstanding...... for years the fans at TF were screaming to " put the QB back on the bench". Sadly management thought they wanted a QB BEHIND the bench, ergo the confusion has resulted in the current hiring.
Kent ; when the manure truck pulls up in front of your house, it'll be time to go.

This time next year, Rider fans will be screaming for Austin's scalp after another 9-9 (or worse) record. Tillman refuses to fire Austin because he is the Godfather to Austin's children, and he and Austin are buddies. Sounds alot like the Shivers/Barrett fiasco to me. The more things change in Riderville, the more they stay the same.
The Riders used to be loveable losers. Now, thanks to some of their fans, they're just losers. :P

Re: Austin Riders New Head Coach

In the first half of last season Allen was hurt, two starting o-linemen were hurt, Ricky W. broke his arm and Avery was his ususal "durable" self. Avery IIRC, wasn' really healthy until the second half of the season. Never mind that Johnson eneded up hurt too. So the excuse for not running the ball more is that the guys that were supposed to block were depleted. The guys who were supposed to carry the rock were injured.

I remember also that one of those early losses came against Winnipeg in a game where Ricky "the great" was stuffed on 3rd down...I think twice! Now that's gotta be a reason to run MORE right?

Agreed, my biggest problem with the hiring is that it was just Tilman hiring a buddy with what seemed to be no real interview process. Tilman had probably made up his mind quite some time ago who his next head coach was going to be, probably even before he came to Saskatchewan.

Still willing to give them both a chance.
