Official Elksherd 17th Annual (2022) CFL Pool Thread - With Prizes!

Hey all,

The long-awaited CFL season is about to begin, coincidentally on the same day as the event for which it exists --- the Elksherd CFL Pool. Prizes again will be offered, to the top two finishers!

Rules

The pool works as follows: pick the winners of the games, and scores. That's it. For every game, you get:

* 2 points for picking the winner.
* a bonus point for getting the exact score for one of the two teams.
* a total of 3 bonus points if you hit the final score precisely for both teams.

The pool will run until the end of the Grey Cup game.

Prizes

It's a lot of fun, and mostly harmless. In past years, the top two finishers received an item from the now-defunct Esksfans shop. This year, the prizes will be of equal value, but there's a chance it'll have an elkish theme.

In the event of a points tie for 2nd place, the first tie breaker is "Wins". If still tied, we will have a random draw or flip a coin or have a 3rd party pick a number between 1 and 10 or whatever silly tie-breaking method I decide.

Access

To get to the pool from the site's main page, click "CFL Pool" under the "elksherd.ca" banner. From there, you'll figure it out.

All the regular season games have now been entered, so predict as many as you want now. I'll be sending out weekly reminders a couple of days before each week's games.

WARNING: During the first week, we'll have to see if I got the time zone difference entered correctly. Make your picks in advance, to be safe.

FINALLY: If you predict a score 30-20, you will earn my undying respect and a tip of the cap from upstairs... Pizmo used to predict with this score in almost every game. He usually did better than I did on bonus points.

Well, the first week is in the books, and it doesn't look like many of us were fooled. Less than half of us picked the Elks to win, on an Elks fan site... although no one picked the Lions to score more than 30. (In honour of pizmo, four of us used the score 30-20!) Six of us got all four games correct, with cmbuk and Naf picking up an additional two bonus points for the lead. Couchspud is in third place with a bonus point on top of his perfect record.

All four games were won this week by the home team, and a friend pointed out that all four games were hosted in the West. Is that a coincidence, or was there some reason the schedule was set up this way?

Writing at 3 AM from the airport in Winnipeg, on my way to teach at a math camp in Massachusetts... what else is there to do in a deserted airport in the middle of the night, but update the pool?

My goodness, Naf continues his tear at the top of the pool. He's now 12-0, with three bonus points, to put him five points clear of the nearest contender eskfan152, who is 10-2. A number of us are hanging on at 10-2, but we'll have some serious work to do, to track down Naf.
