Troy Davis has touched down in Toronto to help revive the running game of the wayward Boatmen.

The Argonauts are expected to announce today the signing of the 32-year-old former runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. Davis was with Iowa State and lost out to Florida's Danny Wuerffel for the 1996 award. The running back was taken in the third round of the National Football League draft by the New Orleans Saints in 1997. He played in the NFL for three years before joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2001.

Davis started 16 games for the Eskimos last year, and he carried the ball 190 carries for 1,060 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 67 receptions for 546 yards. The Eskimos released Davis last February, citing his age and salary. He made more than $100,000 annually and the Eskimos need more production for that kind of money, said head coach Danny Maciocia.

For six years running, Davis rushed for more than 1,000 yards. His best season came in 2004 with the Tiger-Cats as he rumbled for 1,628 yards on 324 carries and received CFL all-star honours for his work.

Upon his release from the Eskimos, Davis lashed out and said he did all he could do with a paltry number of carries and a young offensive line.

Davis could exact revenge on his former employer in the next two weeks with the Argos set to kick off a home-and-home series with Edmonton Friday night at Commonwealth Stadium.

Glad he found a home...but couldn't he have waited a couple of weeks?

He's perfectly right about his criticisms though.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

Not to worried. He probably won't play this week against us. But besides that how does TO seem to pick up every available player that is around.

Guess Avery will be taking up some Sportsnet airtime again.

How many RB's does that give them, an even dozen?

Davis shouldn't scare the Esks because he never scared much of anyone when he was here in his last year.

How many players have the Argo's signed this year...? I used to think the Riders were (by far) the biggest cap abusers this year, but the Argo's have now officially taken over that spot in my mind.

I'm sure all the spending has everything to do with Grey Cup being in TO. Troy Davis is a very good signing in my opinion. When the hell are they off the hook for Avery's salary? It's obvious the guy is never gonna be their #1. Why have they never released him?
Hope, at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are

Great, sign the pissed off one time leading rusher in the CFL just before we are set to play them.

Toronto's run game doesn't scare me, doesn't matter who's back. It'll be a few weeks til Davis really excels in that offence anyway. I'm more worried about Bishop and/or Roberts at this point.

what a shock I'd really like to know how they can stay under the cap with all these player signings. What is is now - 7 Qbs this year, and i think this is the 10th RB.

oh ya its toronto, the cfl will just turn a blind eye towards it because its toronto- cuz ya know, the CFL can't survive without Toronto

these next 2 games are, imo, the biggest for us this year. Toronto's offense doesn't scare me - but that D does... what did they do - held Roberts to a 1.5 yard average. Roberts is better then Ebell and if they take away the run - well it will be pass-pass-pass.. and they do like to be ball hawks...

                            Dear Eskimos....

Please pay special attention to Arland Bruce. Do something to make him a non factor if possible, he always kills us with big plays.

                            Thank you for your cooperation,

                            Your's truly, Beerfish

losing Johnson, they lost a guy who they used primarily as a protection back blocking for Bishop.......man, if you're going to replace him, Davis is the guy to replace him with. Put him in on passing downs and give him the odd carry to keep things honest.

Getting to Bishop just got a bit tougher.
Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.
