      Jack Fyffe bought the uniforms from a surplus store in Chicago, before that, they wore the black and red -- colours of Teddy Roosevelt's "Rough Rider" Canadian contingent -- as Opus has said, beginning in 1912. Whether they switched from Blue & White to match Ottawa I don't know.

      From the Riderville Website:
      Ottawa's Rugby Club had been called the Rough Riders since the 1890's, but dropped it in favor of the "Senators" in 1924. Regina jumped at the chance to adopt the name "Roughriders".

        Wow this all reminds me of when Saskatchewan people bashed Edmonton back in the 80's when their teams won championships. Good lord don't you people see what your doing? Talking about Saskatchewan in numerous threads during the offseason makes you guys look like you got penisenvy beyond belief. Is it any coincidence that there are ZERO Edmonton (or Alberta) threads on any Saskatchewan discussion forums??? God I love my life!!!!

          envy? Jokes about Saskatchewan are an annual event...

          ..you win a championship and all of a sudden you take all these jokes and think that we are envious? No, I think you're sorely mistaken. We make jokes about the Riders, because it's so easy to do, and it's fun.

              I actually quite enjoy it as well. Now we're being made fun of for the way we celebrate a championship! Not a bad problem to have. I'll take those jokes any day of the week.
              I told those f***s down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!

                  Yeah the Riders are a joke to me. And if you think this is a new development since they won the Grey Cup, then check my history on this board, or RF.com. Hell I've always laughed at the Riders and I'll probably continue to do so until, well i dunno when......

                  However I will say it's a lot more fun when they were losing 75% of their games.....lol......now it's not so much fun anymore.
