Marshall and Berry gone from Sask.

    http://www.esks.com/article/riders-d...o-c-doug-berry
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that they have released head coach Greg Marshall and offensive coordinator Doug Berry from their contracts. Vice-President of Football Operations Ken Miller will take over the head coaching duties effective immediately.
Hope, at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are

    Interesting
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Not suprised, but I didn't think it'd be this soon.

These were the right moves, for sure.

I don't know that Marshall will ever get another sniff at being a HC...in my view, (and yes his players blew chunks) he just looked gawd-awful out there.

Good call Muley. 17 years of practice, turned into 8 weeks of frustration, and boom goes the dynamite. Best of luck Greg.

Big difference between holding on and promoting them.

Right time to do it going into a bye week, I suppose.

I guess now we'll find out whether their problems were really due to coaching, or to a deterioration of talent.

Re: Marshall and Berry gone from Sask.

I don't think it's the wrong move necessarily - particularly if they determined that they didn't think that Marshall had what it takes to be a successful head coach in the CFL, but I don't think they addressed the true need - their recruiting and talent.

Coaches don't get dumb over night, and while Berry isn't a favourite of mine, he worked with Durant last year to guide one of the top offences in the league. While injuries to Bagg and Koch and the departure of Fantuz have obviously hurt, they've failed to bring in guys that have been able to adjust quickly and perform. Lots of ink about guys like Nunn and how impressive they were in camp (not unlike Brandon James in Edm), but he hasn't been able to translate it when the lights come on.

Stubler went through an eerily similar thing in Toronto... long time defensive assistant takes over from a guy that moves upstairs, team struggles out of the gate, politics swirl, and mid-way through the season, it's apple and a roadmap... and in this case, another 2.5 years of HC salary.

I'd like to see new hires given a lot more leash and a full season, but if they had determined that he wasn't the guy to lead them, then there's no real use in hanging on. Will be interesting IF the Esks win tonight and put the Lions to an equal 1-7 record, whether heads will roll there too.

You took the words out of my mouth on this one.

I'm sure both are contributing factors.

It wasn't working, so something needed to be done. If they turn it around good for them. If things don't get better though, Taman & Miller need to be held accountable.

They even wait for Friday to do their canning in the CFL... hmm. But I guess it's not as bad a hit when you have a contract, at least he's still getting paid while he licks his wounds.

This move surprises me just based on the fact that Marshall had only been there for 8 games. It is very hard to judge someone based on so little of a time. I personally think that this is just a panic move by the Riders and until they bring some talent in. and this falls on Taman and Miller.
