I've said before that I think DM does some things very well as a coach. He knows the game really well, I think most of the players like playing for him. I think he lets his coordinators do their job. (Contrary to what some people think.) He also does some things poorly as a coach in mind mind but we've gone over that many times.
My big concern is the evaluation and movement of players. DM goes way overboard praising up and pumping up players only to dump them relatively a short time later.
Andre Sommersell
Rosie Williams
Ray Perryman
Anthony Floyd
Patrick Johnson
Ricky Bell
Gerald Dixon
Keyou Craver
All players that were pumped up big time by DM as being big finds or players that were going to really help, all cut after the bloom left the rose. Certainly some of them totally deserved to be let go but some of these are flat out misevaluations. (I read somewhere, though it was never confirmed that in the Ticat deal the cats wanted either Cody or Craver, we gave them Cody.)
Reggie Durden
Stevie Baggs
Omar Morgan
Players picked up with much fan fair (DM talked about how he wanted Baggs for a couple of years and tried to trade for him last year.) that have basically sucked.
Canadians:
Randy Spencer, resigned with the Esks for less than what he could have got elsewhere, cut in pre season.
Jonathon Landon, trade a 2nd round pick for this guy, he never showed, we got nothing instead, unlike what we had to give Toronto for Carson not showing up.
Jason Nedd - Supposidely ranked in the top 8 players in the draft by the Esks. Traded (and he looked bad in the preseason coverage wise)
Jason Nugent - They talked about how they thought about picking him even ahead of Braidwood in that draft, he was that good. Traded for an import DL.
Lime shoes Posteraro - Praised up before camp, he stunk.
Diedrick and Dubuc - Finally got these guys after much fan fair. they lasted a couple of years without any real impact.
No name QB that is signed as our #3 guy that gets good billing, cut after a week and looks terrible by all reports.
Other strange moves - Montford and Brady...cut then brought back.
Ebell, rookie of the year praised up big time. He says he's felling better than he has in weeks and he gets benched for the big Rider game.
Players come and go and some work out and some don't. I don't expect every single transaction to work but the litany of changes over the past couple of years and the flavour of the day philosophy does not give me alot of confidence moving forward. DM and RL talk about us having a good nucleus now to go forward with but I forsee like last year a bunch of cuts in the offseason to bring in the new...latest...best former nfl player.
