Re: Feeling on the Vaughn trade...

Add my name to the list of EXTREMELY dissapointed. I can't believe this actually happened. I'm really pissed off. People were furious when T. Ray was released? Well, to me, this is 100% worse - I loved Ray, but Vaughn has done 100% more for this team over the years than a bunch of T. Ray's put together. I'm surprised there isn't more outrage. His salary, even if it was around $150 is not too steep for the Esks at all - I don't believe that for a second. The team has loads of money and if they can fork out $200 for a DB like Sanchez who hasn't proven anything for this team, then surely they can live with Vaughn's salary.

I expected Vaugn to retire an Eskimo, he still has two or three or more excellent years left in him and I'm just blown away that they got rid of him. And the talk about injury is absurd, he's had no more injuries than anyone else - in fact he plays when he's injured and still outperforms half of the other guys on the offense. He is so reliable, so valuable...I'm really upset about this. We have other great receivers in guys like Ed, but Terry Vaughn was one of the true players who made up the heart and soul of the team. It's just frustrating for me. I just think of last year, going to his restaurant, admiring him and being thankful for having him on our team and - poof - it's all over. We certainly lost a MAJOR part of this team, I don't care what anyone says. No one should underestimate what he brought to the team all these years. The only thing is I'm so thankful that he didn't go to a western team, but still...Montreal? It's going to be hard for me to cheer against him now. I'M NOT HAPPY!

As much as I hate this deal for the B.S reasons why it was done, I do agree with your post.

I'd like to know what the man himself has to say about all this. Its still a tough pill to swallow but I will be over it soon enough. Im definately not as disgruntled as some on the board and I for surely am not thinking the Esks are going to finish last like some Esks fans.

I agree with this post 100%. I can't believe we gave up TV and a pick for a guy we don't need and might not even use. That's pathetic.

IMO, the Esks haven't done very well through trades over the last few years...

You are now able to use another NI for depth which gives you more room on your O-line for an import to help protect Maas better and use Mitchell more. You have the receiver depth and you just need the time to get the ball to them.

I thought that the Esks were going south as a team, but their transactions have caught my attention and they should make a run for first place.

They have made some good deals but this one was not one of them. Subtract... Vaughn
            Add........... Loftus

That does not make this team any better today in a very, very tough Western Division.

I recall feeling like that when we lost Alfred Jackson, I mean his last year with the Lions he had four great TD's against the Als one for 107 yard game winning TD. We got zero for him as he was cut, Campbell got return and allowed TV to continue to earn a salary that Campbell set up for him.

I lthink that the trade allows the Esks to get better on the O-line having NI secondary help incase another NI goes down. With a better O-line, the Esks are a much better team IMHO.

You can't judge a deal like this in that manner. Subtract Tv and his 150-200k, add another NI starter, add room for Ralph, Nowacki, Cloman, Dubuc etc. Let simmer for three years and serve whupass when ready

Loftus will start at saftey IMO and he'll be a stud on ST's, Vaughn won't be needed this year anyways. We have alot of talent at reciever. At least we got something for him, look at the Argo's last year when they cut Mookie they couldn't get anything for him. I like this trade, I had a feeling we were going to have to cut TV, and that would have been even worse.

I don't see Loftus as a slam dunk starter just yet.

Yeah, good point, it could've been worse. I suppose one could look at it as a sort of Comiskey-type trade, but it's hard to look at it in that light when there was no pressing reason to go to MTL.

There's no way Loftus beats Wiltshire out of that position. The only way I see him starting at safety is if they use Wiltshire at LB (which I've heard they were not planning to do).

True. Much as this might end up hurting us, if we find one of the guys like Cloman to be good, we'll still have one of the best receiving corps in the league + a more solid O-line to make sure the ball gets to those guys and Maas won't get hit as much.

Do you honestly think this deal today will have anything to do with signing any of those guys you just mentioned? Did Hughie just pour you a glass of that Kool- Aid Diesel? Maybe they needed to save some cash because of all the top D Linemen they signed in the offseason.

No fricken way am I going to defend this trade. It sucks.
