You know with TJ Hill out (we don't know how long) I would bet that Mark Restelli could also play Hill's position which entails much more in pass coverage than his old weakside linebacker position. You do know that his position with the Dolphins was strong safety and not linebacker.

Also, I am a bit surprised that the Dolphins cut him loose. I watched the Dolphin game versus the Dallas Cowboys and Restelli played the entire second half recording 4 tackles and a pass defended. I thought that he looked pretty good but the fact is that the Dolphin coaching staff took the safe route and kept the backup strong safety after they regnotiated his contract down over a half million annually.

As a CFL'er you face a lot of prejudice in the NFL and unless you are clearly the best at your position you will get cut. There is no tie that goes to the runner in the minds of the coaches when it comes to guys that they don't consider to be "their boys." Sad but true.

I think that he faced much more than simple "CFL prejudice". I read some of the comments about Restelli after he signed and the most influential sports reporter in Miami (Omar Kelly) did not like the signing from day one. For example, on one of his blogs that he answers questions from the locals he was asked, "What do you think of Restelli?" He answered the person as follows, "I think he is too small to play in the NFL. He cannot hit -- He has no "pops". By the way, this is a direct quote -- I am NOT paraphrazing. The fact is that Restelli was the biggest of all of Miami's defensive backs so the "too small" comment was unfounded. Certainly the NFL strike greatly reduced his chance to make it. Normally players could be evaluated during the OTAs which did not happen because of the strike.

The good part -- this does help our Eskimos...
