    Joseph should start next game..

He's been the better QB all year. Not saying he's great or he's the answer to all of our QB troubles, but he's a lot better than Jyles. Even at his age. 37 is not old for a QB - Favre was playing amazing football at 40 having played more games and suffering more injuries than Joseph who looks like he's fit and can still play the game decently. His throws were all spot on tonight, and if not for a couple of drops by the receivers, he would have had better stats.

I just can't stand watching Jyles anymore - his accuracy is so unbelievably bad that it's a wonder how he's still in the league at all. He also tends to make horrible decisions with the ball such as forcing throws and hesitating to run with the ball (a key factor in us acquiring him in the first place). Now, Joseph has made similar mistakes and has looked bad at times, but at least he can make the throws that are required of a QB.

Overall, I see him as a temporary solution to the QB situation until we can develop some of the younger talent. I would even go so far as to suggest that Jyles should be third string behind Joseph and Nichols.

Give me one reason Jyles is better than Joseph. The fact that he's younger is meaningless.

I don't really give a sh*t which one of Jyles and Joseph starts... just give Nichols the #2 spot for the love of cold beer and hot dogs.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Like your thinking, let's start the progressing through the starters so that we can get to Nichols and see what he has ... we threw the ball 22 times last night ... 22 times in the CFL ... WTF .... the Lions had 38 attempts.

I am fairly certain it doesn't matter who is at QB in this offence as long as they secure the ball and don't throw it away. When you run more (24 rushes) than you throw the QB is less of a factor.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.

Hervey is the right guy for G.M.

Esks had a balanced attack for once and it contributed greatly to the win. I prefer to start Jyles if he is not injured too badly. Joseph so far has looked ok in a relief role, It's a big difference between starting and relieving. I agree Nichols should get into more action, but being not particularly mobile, I don't think he is the answer to the future but time will tell.

If Jyles is fine, he is coming off the most accurate and successful game he has had yet. You need to continue that, as he continues to grow with this offence. Judging by the comments, he should be fine next week.

It was Lulay who made a bad decision trying to force a ball in there that resulted in an INT and lead to a field goal...I really didn't see that from SJ last night...he's getting more accurate and I really can't fault him for any of his decision making versus the Lions...if he's healthy enough I stick with him although I also agree that KJ looked better last night as well which is not a bad thing.

Where do you get that he is not mobile? He had 590 rushing yards at EWU in just over two and half seasons. He broke the school's single season rushing record for quarterbacks as he finished with 392 to break the record of 275 set by Mark Laitala.

Just because his career passing yards are the most in Big Sky Conference history and rank him sixth overall in NCAA history doesn't mean he can't scramble. He just doesn't have happy feet like some young QB's, which IMO make him more ready than others at his experience level to take the next step.

As for not being the answer to the future your beloved GM, Tillman said, “This deal would never have been made if we did not feel we had tremendous upside with Matt (Nichols) and Eric (Ward).”

“(Deploying) an athletic quarterback to pressure the defence is where we want to go,” Tillman said, noting the Eskimos were sixth in scoring last season in the eight-team CFL and sixth in first downs.

Of course that is not what the coaching staff have been doing with Jyles and Joseph, they are trying to keep them in the pocket. They game plan has been dink and dunk the ball and hand it off. The philosophy is that it doesn't take a great QB to pull back and play it safe, they just have to manage the game. It could work, Trent Dilfer proved that in the NFL.

It is up to Crandell to get Nichols ready and show him how to manage the game ... not take chances ... the only negative I see right now with Nichols is he will want to make a play and could force something that would cost the team. However, if you just need a game manager why not Nichols? He is going to be way more protected than if they threw him out there and said its your team kid make something happen.

If the Esks can run the score up on the Bombers early enough I would like to see Nichols in to get him the reps he needs in live action, because I suspect he will be starting sooner rather than later.

Agreed. Jyles did not turn the ball over, showed improved accuracy and, for a change had some of his incompletions that were on the receivers rather than him missing targets. It was a relatively efficient and effective game plan and he did well executing it. Lots of room for improvement in the red zone, but I think you have to stick with Jyles based on the improvement and to support him as a leader on this football team. We're 3-1 right now, against most people's predictions (my own included) and it makes no sense to be making a QB change if we don't have to.

Last night was also, imo, evidence of why they played KJ the week before against Wpg. He was able to move past the brutal showing in Sask, in part, due to having been in a position to succeed last week. If we had to turn to him last night, with the game in the balance and his last action being the craptacular display in Mosaic, I think it greatly hurts our chances. Call it knocking the rust off or showing faith in him, but score one for the coaches in thinking ahead, but not too far ahead.

I understand the appeal of Nichols, but I think one of the things that Kavis has shown is instinct and ability for bringing guys along early in their career. He's known when to throw them in, as with Sherritt, he's also shown a willingness to protect guys as with Coehoorn, and he's demonstrated that he doesn't get locked into a progression plan based on what we're seeing with Chambers leapfrogging Carter and Hargreaves. I think he's earned plenty of benefit of the doubt with regard to spotting Nichols, particularly while we're winning games.

Jyles has shown substatial improvement over the last 2 games, we didn't see the 30 yard overthrows in this game that we saw in the others. If he can show this type of consistancy game in and game out, we should be in a postition to win in most ball games. Would like to see the offense take a game over but I'm not sure we're going to see that.

Agree mate.. Jyles has improved each week.. The fact that we didn't give him more work during the pre season.
