Yesterday I watched the Grey Cup like many others, and saw Ricky Ray lead Toronto to a victory. This did not surprise me at all because Ray is the best QB in the CFL. As a matter of fact he has been the best QB in the CFL for the last few years despite Calvillo's accomplishments.
So what sane person would trade away their marquee QB for essentially nothing?! Ray is a proven winner, young, and most importantly durable. Wally Buono unloaded Buck Pierce to Winnipeg because he had Lulay, who was more than capable to take over. Who did Edmonton have on the bench?
The problems Edmonton have experienced over the last 2 years were not Ray's fault. How do you expect to compete when your entire offense consists of Ray and Stamps?
Ray won TO a Grey Cup and might win them a couple more before he retires. Edmonton on the other hand could spend the next few years with a losing record while trying to find a decent QB.
Don't get me wrong, as a Bomber fan I love the so called "city of champions" losing their marquee QB . I don't agree however with what Tillman might have done. A Grey Cup winner in TO or Montreal makes me ill.
We all know how badly the CFL wanted TO in the 100th Grey Cup. The question is how far did they actually go to make this happen? Did Tillman get a "envelope" under the table to sell out Edmonton and put Ray in TO? Was Tillman promised something down the road? If Ray had went to any other team than TO, I would not be so suspicious.
None of this makes any sense.
