    The first sign of trouble?

In an 8 team league the team has not won the cup in 8 years. What team are you referring to because if it is indeed the EE then they are at their lowest ebb since the mid-60's.

I was not making reference to today's game as being the first sign of trouble.

I understand the point that changing coaches mid-season might not have any positive effects but surely we can all agree on the fact that this bunch better be under the bus 5 minutes after the season comes to a merciful end.

The football club is now risking alienation of its fan base and something has to get done. You need paying customers no matter what business you are in.

I'm just wondering how they're going to package the season ticket renewal letter....remember that game against Winnipeg last year we actually won? Well maybe we could have some more like that...so don't take the chance of missing it and renew your tickets....

Right you are. This guy runs a vanilla defence. There are no stunts, no different blitz packages, nothing. It's a straight out four-three defence and he doesn't have the personnel for that.

I agree this group has proven that they are just not able to get it done in this league.

I just wasn't quite ready to give up on Kavis earlier, I still don't want to but it's clear that it's just not going to work out.

Part of me feels sorry for him because he is in way over his head.

I don't when we will have a very successful minority race HC in Edmonton but it won't be this time around.

You've got a defense that was supposed to be the strength of this team, and all they've done is take the leagues outstanding defensive player, and make him look so ordinary, that a rookie (Curren) has actually outperformed him.
Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.

All game there was confusion on substituting players in and out. Isn't this the type of thing that gets resolved in training camp? Some times the defensive player just managed to come on and you see him with his hands out to the side like asking, "what are we doing on this snap?". I think that was #38 in the second half. It was really obvious tonight.

No wonder Kavis lost the Riders their Grey Cup on a last second penalty. I think the general consensus is that it was the players fault for that one, but we keep seeing the same type of confusion here. Unless that player was signalled to come off and didn't see it or ignored it i'm thinking Kavis took the fall for that that because it really was his fault. I've never seen a team have so much trouble on short yardage situations and communicating substitutions with the players.

Gotta give you credit, Ben, you are nothing if not loyal and forever the optimist. You were the last to give up on Maciocia, and you've stuck with Kavis longer than most as well. But it's time to call a spade a spade. Let Kavis go.

REed doesn't seem like a bad guy, as has been said many many times (his sideline meltdowns notwithstanding), but wow he is clearly in over his head. It's been a long time since I've seen a team as badly coached as this one....

The only good I can see that could come out of firing Kavis now would be that it tells fans a new direction will be taken next year. But people would either be all over EH for not doing it earlier, or for doing it when he said he'd wait. So .. what's the point? Might as well let Kavis finish the year. Then clean house....

Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.

If he makes it through today I'll be surprised. At this point, he's more harm than good to the team.

He's been more harm than good all year. I don't really see the point of firing him during the season any more, all's already lost... and I say that as a leading member of the Fire Kavis faction. Have the apple and roadmap ready for the final whistle Nov 2nd.

The really sad thing is, I get a feeling they'll play their best football of the season the next 4 games (not that it would take much), now that there is nothing to play/coach for.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Agreed. Firing him now does nothing.

However, lists should be compiled now for his replacement, and if there are any outside the league's current employment they should be contacted to gauge interest and availability.
