Week 8 : Bearing Down & Lessons Learned

After a superb 1st half against the Als, the Esks collectively took their foot off the gas in the second half and it showed. Call it left overs from the bye week or what have you, but they have to learn the lesson of going for the throat when you have a team beat pillar to post. It's easier to learn this against weaker teams as it helps you seize the moments that come up against better ones when you have them on the ropes. Just like in boxing you need to recognize when you have your opponent ready to go and you step it up and deliver the knockout blows

Staying out east is a great move for the squad, in a team building sense, and a game prep sense. No time adjustments, and the team gets to deal with local things like humidity, etc during practice. The reDBlaCKs play hard but are talent mismatches right now. Jones will no doubt be pounding the message of not playing a full game and I expect this team will not take them lightly.

Stop Walker and you make Hank be Frank, should be the key. On offence I like how the ground game is becoming a bigger part of the gameplan, but we need to make sure we don't go to the well on certain plays too often, ie, the zone/search plays to the right side that Mtl sniffed out regularly. Hopefully Blanco is ready for this week as he's just starting to show what he can do in terms of making teams have to account for him. Lawrence has been an excellent 1-2 punch and if we can continue to attack defences in the middle, that will open up big plays in the second/third levels of the opponent's defence.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

Staying out there is key. Almost like the blackout in 03 it should really help the team gel on a personal level and definitely will help with the time zone thing. Now they just have to remember to practice sometime along with all the sightseeing they're doing!

They still have to clean up the penalties. Not sure how CJ and the rest of the coaching staff is going to address that.

Need to win to go 6-1 and keep in the battle for 3rd place. :O)---> Stoooopid east division.

I didn't like how the team really coasted. In their defense, I guess when the opposition QB is Troy Smith who looked like a guy that never played QB before for most of the game, keeping the intensity up can be hard. I hope a few of the guys that got nicked up, will be back.

Speaking of nicked up, sounds like Sherritt and Stamps are still no practicing. If I'm the Esks I keep Stamps especially out another week. #1 to let him get completely healthy and #2 to have a productive player in his spot.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

I keep thinking how cool it would be if they brought a few balls and just started practicing on the lawn outside Parliament.

It seems like all the teams are getting hit hard with injuries, Toronto probably leading the way.

CFL news is in hibernation between games.

FB Mike Miller goes down in practice with a left leg injury. Hits just keep on coming.

It will be interesting to see how Thomas does with this second chance.
