can anybody explain why the esks are using 8 cdn starters when they only need to use 7? they are playing one at DT, one at safety, three o linemen and 3 receivers. wouldn't it make sense to either use one import at safety or at receiver?

except the safety is brutal and getting killed, and the offence is relying way too much on Bowman. either a quality import safety who could actually cover and close the gap when a db gets beat, or another receiver who can get open and take some of the pressure off bowman would be better to me than what is happening....especially the safety...

The key to this game IMO, is a quick start, we are going to need to step on them early and often. Shut down the run game early and hope for a few defensive turnovers (As I don't have faith that our defence can stop anything right now)

I think we have been going with an all international Dline from what I have seen. Steele has primarily been used to spell off one of them.

Yup. Steele is the "8th NI" in the rotation, but because we don't have Alexandre nor Donny O, we can't rely on that as an every down NI spot.

if that is the case they should be starting Steele with Alexandre as a backup and starting the extra import at safety or receiver. there is a way bigger drop off between King and any import you could find, than Steele to say Hunt or whomever. Also, other teams will double cover Bowman and Walker and leave us with our three slow Canadians to run some underneath routes but that's about it.

It seems to me this a misuse of the players on the roster. I hope Muamba starts and is back to last year's form, King has been brutal.

Also, has our defence blitzed even a linebacker once this season? This system is the worst I have ever seen. At least Marshall would send some heat sometimes. How are 4 guys supposed to beat 6 blockers (including the RB) in 2-3 seconds? Its impossible. Benevides needs to get his head out of his ass and mix things up. this is like a high school defence, except even they disguise coverages and send blitzes!!

Don't count DT as one of our 7 starters. We don't have a Canadian backup so when Steele comes off an American comes on (Alexandre and Oramisionwu are both injured). For it to count as one of the 7 Canadian starters you must have a Canadian come on when another Canadian comes off - so Adjei comes on, Getzlaf comes off. Steele comes off... would have to be someone like Ngoyi, Parrish, Muamba coming onto the D for it to work.

Assuming Bell and Figueroa are the 2 inactives, the 4 Designated Internationals are likely Doe, Frank, Thornton, and Baggs as guys that would only come on when another Int comes off. That means Hunt and Sewell can freely rotate with Steele.

Alexandre is on the injured list. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean he's actually injured, but if he is, you can't have Steele as one of the 7 designated NI starters.

They sent a few blitzes last game but were wildly unsuccessful as Sherrit got leveled on one play. I saw one other corner blitz that came from the opposite side of a called screen pass play.
