    Replay

The league has to do something drastic about this replay throw-the-flag-fishing-for-calls garbage that is making the games unwatchable. The penalty of losing a timeout on an unsuccessful call is meaningless in this game.

Change the rule to a 10 yd delay of game penalty on unsuccessful challenges. We all know the zebras are bound to mess up, so it's a gamble. If you think you're right on a legitimate screw up then fine, you get the call, but as we saw 3 times in the Edm/BC game, this fishing garbage has to go.

I read somewhere that Randy Ambrosie has promised to do something, maybe even by mid season.

      Re: Replay

I'm hearing that the new commish may be looking at some review "alterations" to come at the mid point of the season with plans for a serious overhaul in the new year.

I think TSN (and their on air personalities) don't help matters much. Half the time they don't know what they are talking about (or they flip flop) and that just fuels the fire of the fan. The consensus of most fans I've spoken to seem to be keen on stripping down challenges (and the control's centre's power) to bare essentials, invest a little more $ in retaining quality on field officials and get back to fast paced, enjoyable games.

Most of the challenges I've seen over the years should have been 30 second reviews in my opinion. Yet, it takes those guys 5 minutes to make the same call they should be able to do without such a huge disruption to the flow of the game. It truly is killing the fun of watching a game.
Hope, at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are

Tsn isn't helping the cause for viewers, and this isn't helping teams keep butts in the seats happy either. My wife and I took my 4 year old daughter last week and during the reviews there was nothing going on and it was painful.

          Re: Replay

Replay has been a constant, evolving state as the coaches continually figure out ways to exploit the system. I could go into a long tirade about how this league needs to finally make their officiating a full-time job for their officials...but I will save that for another day. I see the solution to this as being fairly simple. You get one challenge per game. Period. And the command centre should as much damn time as they need to make sure they have made the right call. I do not particularly like the challenges but putting some kind of time frame on how long you can look at something like the CFL is trying to do is one of the most 'bush league' things I have seen this league do.

          Which is saying something...

            Re: Replay

Perhaps I am in the majority, but I don't mind video challenges in pro sports. Ultimately, for me it is more important that the right call is made even if it does go against us. Heck, if the league had video replay back in 1997 we just might have had another championship. If course I do realize that even with the replay, that there is always a fair chance (and better than a fair chance when we are talking about the CFL) that the wrong call could still be made.

All of that said, I do agree that the league needs to closely examine the system and do what they can to limit the disruptions to the flow of the game.

You want to fish for a call, or think you can get a senile Jake Ireland to make up a new interpretation of what PI is this week, then fine, but if you lose it should cost your team 10 yrds. That alone will keep a lot of challenge flags in their pockets

                Re: Replay

I would make the following changes:

                1) You can only use 1 challenge per half. If you don't use your first half challenge, it does NOT carry forward. This would help avoid 3 challenges in 5 minutes like last week.

                2) You don't get a 3rd challenge, regardless whether your first two are correct.

                3) If your first half challenge is not overturned, you lose your second half challenge. This would stop teams from fishing in the first half as they wouldn't want to lose their second half challenge on a fishing expedition.

                4) There can't be two challenges on the same play, ala what happened in Calgary vs Sask a few weeks back.

                5) Fire Glen Johnson

Effective immediately coaches will be able to challenge only one play per game.

Thank goodness my 2 cents is that if a play is close it should be challenged by the replay booth quickly and efficiently kind of like the NCAA does. Scoring play, turnover, close play sure let's take a 2nd look but we don't need 3 challenges for RTP or Illegal Contact and don't get me started on those two rules...

Throw in a loss of down just to make it interesting.
