Schadenfreude! Nylander out for the seasons while Oilers go on a Drive for Five! GDT

    Firstly:

Nylander is out for the season. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy... who was also a WHOPPING -19 in 40 games, on a team that's -8 at 5v5. That's Joffrey Zoolander'esque .

    Secondly, and far more importantly:

The Oilers host the Kings tonight, and it's on PPV. For the first time in a long time tonight, I'm planning on ordering the game, and hoping to enjoy it. The Oilers have won 3 straight, and have a tie in there too , and are playing their best hockey of the season. Garon gets to face the team that let him go tonight, and as such I'm expecting a huge game from him. We're as healthy as we'll ever get, and the Kings don't have anyone that can match up against 27-10-83, who I expect to have another big night. Hemsky is due for a 5 point outting, and I think that's going to be tonight.

The keys for the Oilers tonight are simple:

#1) Stay out of the box! LA has the 4th ranked PP in the league.
#2) Coincidently, convert on the PP. LA has the 29th ranked PK in the league.
#3) Shots! Shots! Shots! The Kings have allowed 153 goals on 1417 shots, for a putrid 0.892 SV%.
#4) Just work the game at evens.... the Kings are the worst team at 5v5 in the league. Cycle, get the puck deep, and take advantage of their D-core and inexperienced forwards.

If our best players are our best players tonight though - we win, and I don't really think it's a question.

So, what ever happened to the Oilers' annual January slump? Have they already had it, or are they saving it for later in the year?
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

It would seem they traded the slump to the Leafs.....

I wonder what we gave in return? Maybe the negotiation rights to JFJ?

HOLY CRAP. I think this is the first post I have read of PDO's that was completely positive. I think I have seen it all now.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

First time I've had something to be positive about since we brought in the young stud defenseman while getting rid of Zoolander at the same time

What a ****ing atrocious play by Grebeshkov on the opening goal. Head up his ass, didn't know where the puck was, then got caught terribly out of position. Horcoff almost made it there in time to cover for him, but jeez, he's gotta be better than that.

... and boy, someone took a huge dump in Chopper's corn flakes this morning.

Somebody wanna tell Rawbear hockey is a much easier game when you get the puck the **** out at your own blueline?

                      Sigh.

So other than losing by two goals early in the second, how's the game?
Are the Oilers doing the obvious and losing to a bad team in a game that would move them over .500?
Or are they playing well and just not getting the results?

Eh... they're playing to LA's level is what I'd say. Puck is bouncing all over the place, which isn't surprising given that there was a concert in Rexall last night and the ice plant is utter garbage at this point.

Two atrocious plays by Grebeshkov and Nilsson respectively that ended up in the back of our net.

There are games you win that you should lose, and games you lose that you should win..

Assuming the Oilers lose this game, this qualifies as the latter. Two pucks lying on the goal line that couldn't get poked in, grade A chances for Hemsky, Penner, Moreau, Brodziak, and two goals on uncharacteristic (in that, they almost never took place tonight) plays. The Oilers soundly out-chanced the Kings tonight, but **** happens.

Well...that sucked. Seemed like they weren't even there in the first.

Oh well. Guess I'm not allowed to watch us play LA any more, either live or on TV. (live for the first loss, TV for this one, both lousy. )
