    Pronger vents about Edmonton rumours

Anaheim Ducks defenceman Chris Pronger is tired of the rumours that surround his trade from Edmonton.

Pronger, speaking to the Edmonton Journal, in a story published on Tuesday said that he understood that some Oilers fans would be upset and jeer him, but was weary of all the speculation about his private life.

"I knew I'd be Public Enemy No. 1 ... but I'm pissed off by all the rumours and innuendo surrounding my leaving," Pronger told the Edmonton Journal.

"I've heard all the nasty stuff, about all my girlfriends...that I've got more kids than I started with. I must have six kids out there.

"It started off with I slept with so-and-so, and I'm having kids, then it moved to my wife sleeping with some of my teammates. I was supposed to be having a kid with a reporter, then she said, 'I don't know what they're talking about.' Then it went from story to story."

Pronger denied the rumours and said that he liked Edmonton and the team, but it was a mutual family decision to leave.

"The fans have every right to feel how they feel," Pronger told the Journal. "Some understand, some don't care. Others, I'm sure, want to tell me to screw off."

The Ducks' first game in Edmonton is Nov. 28.

"Fans are fickle...it's the nature of the beast," Pronger said to the paper. "You're an idol when you're on their team. They love to hate you, hate to love you. Now, they'll be back hating me. They always did when I was on other teams."

The 31-year old and his wife plan to live in California year-round with their two sons.

Ya know what, its his own fault. The fans haven't jumped on Peca in the same way, because he was up front about his reasons for leaving. If Pronger had been a man and given a press conference right at the beginning with his 'reasons' instead of letting things leak to the press through his agent and then oh so conveniently skipping town, then this never would have gotten so out of hand. Hell, even if he had privately discussed the trade with Lowe, without letting it go public, then come forth with his reasons after the trade was made, this would not have gotten so out of hand. And now he wonders at the fact that people feel resentment to him? Gimme a break. If you want respect, treat the fans with respect.

                    Well said.

Chris, you ran away like a scared kid. And now you're crying like a baby.

Why didn't you stand up like a man?

The truth to me is he slept around on his wife, until he comes out and says why he left. I will have no respect for him or his family. He can cry all he wants, but if he wants the fans of Edmonton to accept his departure, come out and say what led to his departure.

exactly - Peca is class, while Pronger is an ass. Peca might be the only player on the Leafs I could cheer for as a Leaf (there are others on the team I'd cheer for...but not as a Leaf)

Re: Pronger is mad at us

This guy is a real piece of work. He is mad about all the rumors. Well you know what, when you come out a couple of days later after almost winning the stanley cup and ask to leave town with no reason given, people are going to make things up. I'm sure its a personal reason, thats fine but when you are in the public eye. When you want your face on magazines, in commercials, on video game covers, you have to expect to get good attention as well as negative attention. That's the way it is. If he had of come out and just told the reason. Just of said, "I like the fans, I like the city, I like the team, but my wife doesn't like living in Edmonton, she is american and she wants to live in the US. I have tried to talk to her and convince her to give it a try, she gave it 1 hockey season and she just doesnt want to be here. So i'm sorry, but I have to go some place where I can play hockey but as well have a decent home life and unfortunately, it can't be Edmonton". If he had of just come out with the truth, people would of accepted it. Sure we would of thought his wife was a prissy b!tch, but thats all we would of thought.
When the guys comes to Edmonton, signs a big money, long term deal, says everything is great, the team is winning, he loves the fans, he loves the city, then all of a sudden "i have to leave right now" of course people are going to wonder why and of course people are going to think the worse.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

You are totally right. Do I like the fact that Peca left, NO. But at least he had the guts to say why. He doesn't like playing in the West, his family is from the East, he is from the East and he wants to play in the East. I can accept that. I dont have to like it, but I can accept and respect his decision. Its his life, his career, he can do what he wants. Not everyone is going to like playing in Edmonton, thats life but when guys like Pronger treat us like we are retarded and feed us some BS lines, thats when people attack.

Fans are fickle?? Fans are fickle?

Who the hell is being fickle here?

Pronger and Nik Lewis should be dropped off a cliff. They deserve each other.
