    McCallum/Calvillo - Next Season...

So, is it just me, or does anyone else think that Montreal's going to be needing a new QB next year along with BC looking for a new kicker...
I mean, AC has nothing left to prove...neither does McCallum...and just from the interviews lately, it sounds like both of them are thinking of hanging it up. Nothing said directly, but just the tone implications they've made sounds like this might be their last season. Considering that they're the two oldest players in the CFL right now (third is Joseph...yay us!)
Just a thought and something to think about. How much different would the league look, well ok, those two teams look without those two players?

I think you are dead wrong. I think both have pretty much said they will be back next year.

Calvillio will play another year or two. Why not? He's still at the top of his game.

McCallum hit a 53 yarder to win a game over the weekend...he's still got some get up and go in that leg of his. He'll play at least one more year.

Could very well be...but they might also look at someone like Favre that should have retired one year earlier and gone out on top, rather than stick it out another season and either hit a bad streak or worse yet, risk injury. AC's had a couple good smacks this season, more than I can remember for the last few years and it might chew on him a bit that he's getting old...McCallum - well that might be just me blowing smoke, but I'll say this - either one of them gets a ring in November - they'll be done. Just my feeling on it. No actual facts to support it, just a feeling.

Players who keep on the laces as long as McCallum and Calvillo are the ones who love the game and have it in their blood. They'll bow out when, and only when, they themselves recognize their skills start to deteriorate. Neither one of them is anywhere near that point. (That's likely why the Leos traded Whyte.) I'd be surprised if they don't play 2013, let alone 2012.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.

I hope McCallum plays a couple more years, allowing us to get our hands on O'Neill in free agency.

The Lions already have succession planning in place for McCallum by drafting high rated Golden Bear product Hugh O'Neill this year.

AC is alreay commited himself to 2012 and I've heard a few in the org say they hope he plays at least 3 more years... The bigger question in Montreal is that while Adrian has been very patient. 3 years would be damaging to his carreer. There is also Milanovich who is a candidate in Saskatchewan.

Then there is the whole expansion draft issue, where again Milanovich is a top candidate and where the Als would likely lose Adrian...

It is going to get complicated in Montreal over the next year...

I don't really get that sense, particularly not from Calvillo. That's he's largely kept playing right through all the health issues he and his family has had, leads me to suspect he'll keep playing as long as he can still start and Montreal is competitive.

As per McCallum, who knows? Kickers can go forever.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Goes out on a three-peat, interesting. Michael Jordan did it, twice... though I'm betting he wishes the second one had stuck

Frick, hadn't even thought about the expansion draft...that could really throw a monkey in the wrench for succession plans...
As for McCallum...he's been playing for 19 years now though, maybe another season after this one...make it two decades of booting the ball. I have no idea, what's the longest someone's played in the CFL?

Passaglia played the longest, 25 years. Not sure if he was the oldest, but he was 46 when he packed it in.

Bob Cameron was the oldest I think? Mcpherson should be a decent replacement for calvillo if he hangs em up and o'neill will replace mccallum. I doubt either retire but they won't be looking far for there replacements.

If AC decides to stay on the Als lose Mcpherson to the Ottawa franchise guaranteed. The only thing that may prevent this is the long delay in getting the new park built in Ottawa or if Mcpherson decides to leave beforehand. What's his contract status? You would think Toronto would be all over that guy if he was available.
