    Trade possibilities?

Ok so the Brandon James thread got side tracked a bit, but I'd just like to know what everyone thinks about possibly dealing one of our import RBs. With ET pumping James tires, I'm thinking he's either planning on or in the middle of trying to deal one of our import RBs. If this was the case, who would you deal, and what position do you think would need the help the most in return? Also which team has the need for an Import RB and also could possibly have someone we could use? Also do we trade for players for this season or possibly scoop up some more pics for next years draft?

Id think BC might be the team that really needs the RB help right now with Robertson being older and their young star from last year getting busted with ecstasy. But who do they have that we could possibly take in return to shore up some of the weaker points on our team? Sask might be interested. Cates is only good inside the 10 yard line and I guess this Charles guy is highly regarded. Also my cousin doesn't shut up about this West guy they got in camp. But I think if i was the Riders or BC I'd strongly consider a proven guy like Whitlock. No one else out there seems to really need help at the RB position at the moment.

Sorry mods for starting a whole new thread on the subject, but if you guys think it belongs merged into another thread somewhere or if this has already been discussed, feel free to delete or move or whatever

    LETS GO ESKIMOS!!!!!

    Nah. Its all good.

    Different topic IMO...

I'll repeat what I said previously, if I was going to deal one to improve depth elsewhere, I'd be dealing AW and sticking with DP. Far better blocker IMO.

I'd deal AW as well if we had to deal one of the two. I'd be trying to send him East though. Who ended up winning the RB job in Montreal? Maybe they would be interested. Getting a promising import receiver from Montreal, or maybe an import DE or DT would be my goal.

        Absolutely.

No way do I deal inside the west an explosive back that can haunt you for years.

Exactly what I was thinking. After Porters emergence last year, I think Whitlock might become expendable and good trade bait. I think I read on here somewhere that Whitlock was going to be a primary returner? I could be wrong on this.

i completely forgot about Montreal actually. A trade out east certainly would be more ideal.

              Re: Trade possibilities?

I don't want to see us move either one at this point, as I'm not convinced that there is any team out there that doesn't have a certain amount of belief in who they have, thus no particular desperation. On top of that Whitlock's value is likely down a bit coming off an injury that cost him half the season and having missed the last few weeks of camp. Further, I'm not convinced that other teams look at our guys and see "proven", therefore, I think the return you'd bring back is fairly limited anyways.

If it were a case of needing to plug one or two holes in order to be a contender, I'd be more likely to pull the trigger, but I'm much more interested to see what we have at the receiver position (Fisher, Henry, James) and get a better idea of whether our secondary has the pieces we need to build around. If another team has a back go down to injury, perhaps we're in a better position, both in terms of demand for a RB and in understanding where our needs are. Wait for a seller's market.

With regard to BC, they got a pretty impressive pre-season out of Tim Brown in addition to having the veteran Robertson and some up-and-coming NI talent (Harris and Lee). Buono/Shivers also have decent records in recruiting and identifying RBs, so I wouldn't see them in a rush to make a move.
              Life is Good.

It's a long season. RBs get hurt all the time. IIRC Porter missed a game or two due to injury himself last year. Having a stud RB who can consistently carry the mail and bust the odd run for huge gains is worth his weight in gold in my books. You hold on to both of them. Personally if they trade either one of them I will be extremely disappointed but based on some of the comments I've heard made on occassion by ET, KR, and MC not at all surprised.

                  Re: Trade possibilities?

Considering the obvious roster holes we have, I could certainly see a RB moved after week one for some help on the D - especially if a team like Montreal gets blown away this week...
Hope, at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are

                    Re: Trade possibilities?

I had talked about moving Whitlock to Montreal earlier this preseason (well, either, but I'd prefer Whitlock) and it was shot down. Some said Montreal filled their need and others said we don't want to deal that depth. Personally, I still think if you can make that deal and add some proven help on the defensive side of the ball, you do it.

I think with McCarty Messam and James we can afford to move Arkee. He is a good back but we could easily have a 1000 yard ruysher in porter and McCarty and Messam could each pick up 600 yards
Run the Ball up the gut around the horn it does not matter. We run we win what is so difficult to understand.

Hamilton might be looking for a RB in a few weeks if Cobourne stumbles. Granted they also are pretty high on their #2 guy, Terry Grant I beleive.

We'll agree to disagree. Until CMC (or any of our other backs) can show me that other gear on a somewhat consistent basis which from time to time he has teased us with over the last few years I remain unconvinced. You need a back who can consistently get you that 100 yard game. Who can consistently get you that 5 yard or better average. CMC hasn't done that IMO. If your back isn't capable of this then guess what happens. Your offense starts throwing the ball on every down becoming one dimensional resulting in RR running for his life.

Hard rushing RBs get hurt a lot of the time so when you have two quality ones I believe you hold onto them not in case one of them gets hurt but when they get hurt. JR in Calgary has often stated how happy he is to share the load with JC. He's one of the few resilient RBs in this league. He was probably a bit of an anomaly early on in his career but now that he's older if not for JC he also would have suffered many more injuries than he has. This is the reason that I often push for the esks to find a way to get both AW and DP onto the roster at the same time. Until CMC or Messum becomes a Sean Millington or a Jon Cornish I vote for keeping both AW and DP. Anyways that's my 2 cents. I know I sound like a broken record on the subject as I never miss an opportunity to state my opinion on the running game. Love talking football.
