Re: Could Kavis Reed be trying to turn the tables on Tillman?

The bulk of the injuries has been on the defense so I would hope the BoG doesn't fall for the injury excuse. If the Esks had any sort of mediocre offense, they wouldn't be where they are right now. The lack of offense falls squarely on the poor QB production which is a direct result of Tillman providing nothing. Other than Bowman, has anyone of significance been injured on the offense for any length of time? Charles didn't get hurt until week 17 so that doesn't excuse the previous 16 weeks. Plus their 2 starting QB's (Jyles & Joseph) both missed time but neither of them are impact players.

Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

I am "hoping against hope" as they say, that enough people on the board can see the Tillman fiasco for what it is. Given the recent history of the team, it seems unlikely that Tillman will be punted, but hope springs eternal - until it doesn't!

One thing that is undeniable is the noted distrust people seem to have of the management and in part the HC with they way the message of the day has been trot out, usually in mixed or contradictory ways. Even the media are on this slant in the way the QB's are being handled, as they've yet to pick up on the stashing if healthy players on the IR.

Mistrust in a brand is bad for business, no matter how you spin it. All the suits on the board should know that.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

Personally I hope the Esks don't make the playoffs and we can get rid of the GM and OC.
If we were put on this earth to help others, what were the others put on earth for?

Reed is a poor coach and the author of his own story. He has a great mentality when it comes to winning and is a good motivator but his in game decisions and lack of fundamentals for the team is pretty atrocious. He also signed off on the Ray trade, in his own words so he has to take the heat for that.

You sure he was 100% on board with the Ray trade? Sure he went along with it but Tillman is his boss so what is he supposed to say and still keep his job?

No way did Kavis sign off on the trade. He just accepted it like he had to.

“I’m assuming Eric Tillman has the final call on trades,” he began. “But if it were up to you, would you have liked to have kept Ricky?”

The tension ratcheted up a few notches in the room. Reed laughed a somewhat uncomfortable laugh and said what he always says when he gets asked a question he doesn’t like.

“You know Gene, I love you,” the coach said, drawing laughs out of the people in the media centre at Commonwealth Stadium. “I’ll still send you a Christmas card.”

He went on to answer the question, in a roundabout way.

“Ricky has been an absolute professional. His numbers speak for himself and there’s no secret that I loved working with Ricky.

The decision was made to trade Ricky Ray and as a head coach, my job is to work with what we have. We have the utmost respect for Ricky. Did I love working with him? Absolutely, no question about it.

“As a part of this franchise, my job is to make certain, the most important thing is that I look at what we have to work with to be competitive on the field.”

His answer complete, Reed looked over at Principe and said, “I did the politically correct thing in avoiding your question.”

He either signed off on it as he himself states or he is a flat out liar. I think he did for sure sign off on it, tillman may have influenced him but no one put a gun to his head to state that he signed off on it. He said it publicly, he has to live up to his words.

Funny I heard him say on the radio that he HAD signed off on it or was on board with it.

I'm not giving Reed a free pass because I think he has made his share of mistakes but the only person I believe thought making the Ray trade was the right thing to do was Eric Tillman. When you replace Ricky Ray with Stephan Jyles, your team is automatically weaker and makes the head coaches job a whole lot harder.

So sure he technically "signed off" on it but in reality he had no choice but to go along with it. Reed's a smart guy. He isn't going to come out in public when asked the question, say the trade is stupid and say his GM is an idiot for making the trade. He'd be fired on the spot.

We all have bosses that do things we don't agree with. Do you walk into your bosses office when he does something you don't agree with and call him out on it? Not a chance. You suck it up and work around it to try and keep whatever you are doing together.

Also I seem to remember Tillman telling his seven dwarf in his VIP meeting that he was working behind the scene on the QB situation. We don't know what he told Reed to get him to go along with it. Did he tell him he had to choose between Ray and getting his defense gutted ? Did he tell him he had a line on another QB that Reed likes ?

Trades of that magnitude are never done without significant discussion between GM, HC and other members of the organization. You just can't make moves like that without at least the GM and HC having discussions aboout how the deal will impact the team both short term and long term. I don't know if it's the same in the CFL but NHL GMs will tell you it's extremely rare that a trade happens overnight. Most are the result of weeks of conversation. Scuttlebutt on this one is that Barker approached Tillman a few times over a period of time before the deal happened. You'd have to think Reed was well aware of the Argo overtures and that he and Tillman had more than a few conversations before the deal was done with them coming to mutual agreement to pull the trigger. If not you have a most dysfunctional organzation in which case Reed should be run out of town on the same rail with Tillman. If there's anything worse than having a GM operate in a total autocratic state it would be having a coach willing to work in that sort of situation. If he doesn't have the character and stones to demand and expect total involvement in such decisions then I question if he has the stones to be a Head Coach period.

                            We have a dysfunctional organization.

Someone is going to be the coach that works under an autocratic GM.

Well put the HC, GM and the board have equal shares to the blame.

I wouldn't say equal shares, who brought the idea up? How much convincing was needed? How much behind the scenes/ behind the back talk took place in order to convice those people?

I'm not connected enough to know the answers to any of those questions
