It might be a little premature but I would like to see Fred Stamps retire as an Eskimo and presented with a Grey Cup ring.

Stamps may be receptive upon his retirement to signing a one day contract and retiring as an Eskimo. I seriously doubt however, that he would want a Cup ring under those circumstances or that it would even be offered.

We've been blessed with a number of Grey Cups spread out over the last several decades that most of our Eskimo heroes managed to get a ring or two, but Freddie is not the only one who bled green and gold that didn't get a chance to drink out of the Cup. I will forever be a big Fred Stamps fan and hope that when the day comes for him to hang em up, he does so as an Eskimo, but I'd say no to a ring.

Exactly. How many Grey Cup rings does Long Gone Thomas have? Or John LaGrone, Howie Schumm, Ron Forwick, and so many others that bled Green and Gold for the better part of a decade and never got a ring?

Let Stamps retire as an Eskimo, but those rings are so special because of what it takes to win one. Unfortunately Freddy never won one as an Eskimo, but he will always be an Eskimo to us all.

If I am given an award, or anything for that matter, that I did not earn - it has little meaning for me.
Grey Cup rings are given, I presume, to those players on the roster/under contract of a Grey Cup winning team; and of course coaches etc also receive rings. Sorry that Fred wasn't. He certainly could have/should have been. Does not make him less of a player, though, that he wasn't. I doubt that he would want a ring under the conditions outlined above in this thread. He is too classy to get one that way.

Warren Moon never played on Super Bowl wining team. I'm sure it haunts him, but … I doubt that he would want to somehow be given a ring by signing a one day contract with a team.

You'd be surprised how many guys never ever wear their rings aside from the night of the presentation... They either get thrown in a drawer or safety deposit box and never come out. Or only for special occasions like Alumni functions etc. Probably because they're so damned big now! Not all of us have big meat hooks that make the ring look small and I gotta say...typing all day with one of those on gets tough on the fingers.
I seriously doubt Fred would want a ring unless he earned it. Some teams do rings for the entire staff/practice roster etc....hell even Bryan Hall has a couple Esks rings and will most likely get another one next month.

If you want to sign him to a 1 day deal so he can retire, sure but why would you give him a ring when he didn't earn it and had nothing to do with the team. I liked Stamps as a player but no way are you giving him a ring just because. I liked Ricky Ray a ton and was pissed they traded him but do you give him a ring too?

3rd in receiving yards for the Als at 479 - led the team in TD receptions. Not bad numbers, but yeah, probably not good enough for a veteran's salary.

Stamps body has, especially his legs has been deteriorating for the last few years. I'm betting he's done.
