Re: Eskimos vs. Alouettes; 2019 Home Opener
Interesting depth chart.
Oneyka gets the start over Colquhoun. Is that a case he beat him out for the job, coaches not trusting Colquhoun being able to play a full game or is he still nicked up?
Bazzie not playing. I went on their site and say he's 1 gamed. I didn't know he was hurt as I didn't see anything report. Teams stash guys on the 1 game all the time. I wonder if he got just beat out for the job.
Bond not playing isn't a surprise to me. When they eliminated the Canadian spot at linebacker, I figured something had to give ratio wise.
Hunter at safety. That means to me that both of Hoover and Beaulieu aren't deemed good enough to start. Safety is usually an automatic Canadian position ratio wise.

I didn't even notice the 1 extra Olineman. That's a big gamble. Those guys take a beating and can get banged up pretty easy.Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

Weird splits on the ratio. Only two Nats on the starting D and 6 starting on Offense. Looks like they want to go out and make a statement on Defense. Against a poor team like Montreal it may be fun to watch if they gel quickly.

I think Maas did the same a lot last year. Would prefer a second guy especially early in the season when injuries seem to be more common unless someone on the D-line has O-Line experience we're not aware of.Originally posted by Sectionq View PostInteresting depth chart.

Nevermind, I checked again and my memory was incorrect. He usually had two.Last edited by bone; 06-13-2019, 09:24 AM.

Surprises throughout the depth-chart at this point, notably the absences, but also some of the positioning.#Esks Money Hunter is fine with a move to safety "Old habits die hard. Free safety was one of my positions in college I enjoyed it - running around playing baseball sort of. I can help out everybody on the field and show my range."

Safety has been a sore spot on this team for many years. I've been asking for a ratio switch at S for years. Hope Hunter proves me right and we see an increase in production from that position. Maybe Lolley finally convinced the powers that be that Hoover is not the answer and wanted the ratio switched.
No Bazzie and Santos-Knox hurs IMHO. Had big expectations from those two this season.
No idea what is going on with Colquhoun. If he not careful, Oneyka may just grab that CB position and not look back. Is he hurt? Is he nicked up? Will he dress and be the bakc-up? Was it a case that he simply got beat out for that starting CB position?

Re: Eskimos vs. Alouettes; 2019 Home Opener
A few things i will be watching for on Friday:
1. Can Trevaun Smith step up at the WR position as a National. Been waiting for three years for this draft pick to pay dividends. If he can prove his worth and become a regular game day starter, that is a huge advantage with ratio flexibility. Especially, if Looley and company want the Safety position to be International.
2. Does Money Hunter play well at Safety? Does he make the decision hard for the coaching staff to turn that position back to Hoover and company?
3. How does new LB core look? With no Santos-Knox how does Diggs look?
4. OL as a whole. Can Ruby hold his own and allow coaches to play 3 Nationals moving forward? How do tackles look?
Lots of things to watch... These are just a few that interest me.

I'm not complaining about this I think Usher has a lot of upside, I saw that last year, I know he's a lighter DE too but I liked what I saw out of him.Originally posted by Diesel View PostLook at the bright side, at leats Bazzie won't get run over on the edge by the ground game this week

I'd be ok with them using an american at safety as long as he's a big enough upgrade to warrant it,Originally posted by SKIP12 View PostSafety has been a sore spot on this team for many years. Some big names left off this weeks depth chart. For some of them we know they've been nicked up (Santos-Knox, Daniels and Martese Jackson) For Bond it may be a ratio move but I haven't heard anything about Bazzie missing practice, did Usher beat him out or is this a case of using someone stronger against the run when thats what we may be seeing. To me it seems that Bazzie may be nicked up as if he got beat out, I would think he would have been cut to save the cap space.

Re: Eskimos vs. Alouettes; 2019 Home Opener
Opportunities:
Money Hunter - I figured he'd be our SAM of the future. Chance to be a difference maker at Safety.
Onyeka - first chance as a starter
Stafford - with our ratio trouble he needs to show he can contribute in a key role when the pressure is on
Smith - chance to start in his first game
Ruby - Bond wasn't a noticeable all star last year, which makes it hard to justify an import at guard. Ruby gets a chance to show he isn't a downgrade at the position.
