Bit of a BC report after catching today's practice.
For the most part continuity is the order of the day as the entire coaching.staff has returned.
On offense the only changes will be at tailback with the arrival of William Stanback and 2 new receivers.
McInnis who picked up 11 starts in 2023, when the likes of Rhymes, Hatcher and Whitehead were unable to go, gets a full-time starting slotback job. He'll take over Rhymes old spot. Big-bodied (6'2 215) former NFLer Travis Fulgham (13gp, 8 starts, 38 catches, 539 yds, 4 TDs for Eagles 2020) has been taking 1st unit reps in Hatcher's spot and looking good. Hollins flips sides from field side to Lucky's old boundary side WR. Ayden Eberhardt is a name to watch. He's likely to slide into Hollins' old field side spot. He looked great in camp last year. Like Hollins and Hatcher before him he couldn't crash the deep and healthy BC lineup as a rookie. Despite the departures of Rhymes and Whitehead and Hatcher being unavailable until probably September it's looking like the group of receivers won't skip a beat.
Defense is where the most change will occur.
With departures of Betts, Menard and Baron and arrival of Covington there will be a ratio shift. DT will become a NAT starting spot instead of DE. Projected DL starters will be Tuehema, Banks, Covington and Pete Robertson. Rotation guys will come from a group of NATs Cherry, Bemiy and Joseph (all 1st rd picks from 2021-23) Global Debaillie and Americans Siddiqi and Marcus Moore.
LB will have the same personnel. Rugamba will start at SAM. I predict Lokombo and Varga will provide depth at WIL and MAC. Only question is who of Hladik and Woods will start at which of those 2 spots.
By far the biggest changes will happen in the secondary where TJ Lee will be out until likely Sept. Peters returns to play shutdown boundary CB. Vet Marcus Sayles returns but has been relegated to the stationary bike so far due to tendinitis. Not sure if they'll leave him at field DHB or shift him to Lee's spot. Rookie Richard Kent has been taking Sayles 1st unit reps and looks very good. They signed vet Ciante Evans in free agency. Where things get murky is with the NAT content. So far they've had Patrice Rene taking 1st unit safety reps with Greene taking 1st unit field CB reps. Greene acquitted himself well getting some starts at safety. I'm not seeing them starting 2 NATs in the secondary. With 2023 pick Bagayogo being more of a natural CB I'm wondering if they
aren't looking at Greene to shift there to give them a good tandem to make it a NAT starting position.
Special teams looks to be unchanged. Williams will handle returns. Pickett might get pushed at LS by NFL vet Nelson but I think is safe. Flintoft will be the punter. Mr.Reliable Sean Whyte will handle placekicking although like McCallum and Passaglia before him his range isn't quite what it used to be. At BC Place last year anything beyond 51 was pushing it. The South African global rugby player they drafted, Meyer, is showing a big time leg. He's booming convert attempts 15-20 yards beyond the back line of the endzone. Listed at 6'3 231 he's ripped, built like a linebacker. With his rugby background he could make the club on special teams coverage units.
