I know you were being sarcastic but that line of reasoning isn't all that flawed... The only problem is like you said they abandoned it complete. But Running a ton in the first half in an attempt to open up the passing game in the second is not a bad idea is it?

The frustrating thing for me was they were trying to divert the pressure but it wasn't working. We saw a good ground game in the first, we saw a couple slants, and couple screen attempts, Reilly was rolling away from the pressure. IMO it was our best game as far as actually TRYING to do something to avoid the pressure but yet, it just kept on coming.

also escaped a couple of sure sacks as well

LaPolice showed how your fullback and tailback were part of the problem as well.

yeah, it kept coming........ because we DIDN'T DO ENOUGH TO DECREASE IT!!!! Which is why we should have stayed with it longer and ran more screens/slants to bust some long ones that created points! That makes a defense take a step back and have to re-evaluate what they are doing! But. that would take "adjustments"...... something our coaching staff is incapable of..........

Yeah, I was quite shocked to see a coherent running game there for awhile... unfortunately it disappeared as the game progressed.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

I was sorely disappointed to see them abandon it as well, especially in a tight game. Juan Blanco should have had 25+ carries in that game as he had a 5.5yd average going into the second half, and finished with a 5.6 for the game. Give your Oline something to be proud of and build on fercrissakes...

What gets me is they were down by 1 point going into the half and should of been winning if O'Neil could make a field goal yet they still abandoned the run game. WTF?
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

Exactly. Football at the fundamental level is the same as it's been since it was invented. Running the ball opens up the passing game.

I think they were so blown away by seeing running production, they went straight into the pass game. If the run game works, you keep at it and wear them out. You'd think the coaches would recognize that from watching our own game film...

Well see our game films are so boring and predicatable half way through they usually switch to something more entertaining, like ishtar or gigli.

I know I am late to this conversation but how about Apocalype Now right about the part where Kurtz (Brando) speaks of the horrors he has seen?

Where is the Air Cavalry when you need it most?

Yup. I've said it before, football is a game of misdirection. On offense, go where they're not gonna be. Why do the Esks constantly go away from the run too early? It makes the offense predictable. If you're behind (and we've been that a LOT this year), you don't abandon the run until, say, about five minutes to go for every TD you're behind.
Out of my mind; back in five minutes.
