I think I was the person they were talking about that quoted the rule.

Bud Steen was all over the place on it, at first he sounded as though he thought it was a penalty.

Great talk on the number of times Reilly has been hit late over the past few years (without a penalty call).

Bud said an announcement will be out in next week in regards to the Command Centre rule.

He also discussed the Hunter call. Again, all over the place. At first he said it likely was deserved, then he said trash talk happens throughout games and isn’t often called. Gregor asked him if he thought it was fair in a close game. He didn’t really answer. Sort of said yes.

I thought Gregor did a great job hammering him.

Bud Steen said it was unfortunate a bad call may result in a team missing the playoffs.

The Bud Steen segment has long been one of my favourite parts of the Jason Gregor Show because 1. It's a badly-needed break from the never-ending discussion about Oilers' line combinations and 2. Steen always does his best to be transparent & honest and actually seems to welcome Gregor's "hammering".

He didn't say there wouldn't necessarily be an announcement to the public. He did say that if they don't make a statement he would say something this week. Bud did spend a lot of time adding stuff that isn't in the rule book.

I wouldn't expect you to get a response from your letter to the commissioner because their command centre call is indefensible and as such I don't expect them to defend it.

Originally Bud was quite outspoken (a few years ago) but has pulled in his horns and is very careful to not criticize officiating beyond league comments.

That's the part that hurts, if the command center had gotten that call right we'd be sitting in 2nd place right now instead of 5th.

If we had beaten Sask, there would currently be 3 teams with a 9-7 record and BC would be 8-7 with a game in hand.

Its all good retired officials and local reporters are calling out the botched RTP call...but where is the all mighty commish on the matter ? All teams have been screwed over by officiating and the missed RTP on Reilly might end up costing a team a playoff ticket yet he remains silent. Is he oblivious the league is losing fans hand over fist because of the ****ty officiating ?

The more and more he's silent the more and more I believe TSN is absolutely controlling everything. I bet they already have the confetti cannons packed with their choice of colors.

Bud Steen is a retired on field official but I believe he still works as a consultant/advisor in some sort of capacity with the CFL. Which explains why he has access to the report and involvement with it.

An interesting part of the interview is Steen mentions the camera angles TSN provided them. The CFL should own all the camera angles, they shouldn’t depend on a biased broadcaster to provide them.

Which adds credence to your suggestion. When we played in Ottawa and the Command Centre reversed their decision on the fumble for a TD by Sherrit, TSN provided a late replay showing a angle that reversed the call. I know it was the correct call, although I’ve never seen the CFL reverse a call they already confirmed by replay.

He added too much stuff that wasn’t in the rulebook. If it isn’t there it doesn’t exist. Especially the part about not teaching players to roll off QBs.

If they don’t reply they’ll get a second registered mail letter from me. I’m a persistent bugger. Plus I have more to add, including the info you just posted about the Saskatchewan newspaper.

I expect them to gloss over a reply With complete and total BS.

Even if you're 100% right, there's no way they can say anything else to you. No organization is going to make a news-worthy admission to a letter from the general public, especially since dozens of such letters arrive all the time. It would be chaos within days.

Gregor is going to ask Steen again about another missed head shot to Reilly in the last game.

Does anyone think that Reilly being the "toughest" guy in the league serve as a disadvantage to the Esks and not getting calls? He takes some crazy big hits and gets up, sometimes they are borderline roughing the passer in my opinion, yet he pops up. He seems to take at least 1 head shot a game and it doesn't get called. If he was going down more, would he get more calls?

It shouldn't matter. A head shot is a head shot but he rarely gets a call.

It shouldn't matter. A head shot is a head shot but he rarely gets a call.

I would suggest its a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. One thing I took out of the live mic games is that Dickenson and Bo Levi call for a penalty on almost every play, where as Maas and Reilly rarely complain. I prefer the high road that Maas and company typically take but the Calgary method seems to have results.

I saw both of them. And you are right that he seems to take one almost every game that doesn’t get called.

And at 6’4” it’s not easy to accidentally hit him in the head, players are aiming high on him because they know they won’t get called.
