Given the size of the other threads, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the offseason to keep track of news and discussion about what the team needs to do to return to the playoffs and hopefully further glory.

Since Thompson took over, we've brought back Mondo, Odel and Grymes. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was a former player.Originally posted by Mr.Prez View PostFrom bellagiobob on hf

The new Pres needs to know football, preferably the CFL but has some experience in business.
They need to have ties to Edmonton, preferably ties to the team from the past and live in the City.
The person needs to be approachable by the fans and the organization.
The new person needs to be open to change. Same old same old doesn't work.
The new person needs to know that improving the off field experience is important but know you need a good on field product as well. You can bring in all the bands you want, but if the football team sucks, no one will come.
No more guys who maybe know business/marketing but couldn't tell you what touchdown means.
No more guys from the US who didn't know the CFL existed until they got asked to be interviewed.
No more guys who couldn't pick Edmonton out on a map of North America until the City is mentioned in the interview.
No more guys with zero ties to Edmonton or don't live in the City.Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

That's interesting. I've heard from pretty reliable source that he was in favour of a return to a past name (or at minimum disagreed with the original need to change).Originally posted by Mr.Prez View Post
I read the twitter thread and someone suggested Ambrosie
He's been a disaster as commissioner. He may not be as bad as a president but would rather look elsewhere.Last edited by bone; 10-30-2024, 01:58 PM.

Its going to be Chris Morris and he checks all of the above boxes. I've had several interactions with him as my son plays youth football and is involved with the U of A selects program which is spearheaded by him. He's been nothing but a pleasure to work with and the kids love him, some of the things he's done for the U of A program were innovative and he completely changed the direction of that program.Originally posted by Sectionq View PostThe new Pres needs to know football, preferably the CFL but has some experience in business.

Don't see any business background with him. His education background was in Education, was a teacher for awhile and progressed to be principal (which would require a little bit of business sense but not at the level of running a professional sports franchise) and has been with the Golden Bears since 2013.Originally posted by dealerd View Posthttps://x.com/dave_ched/status/1851750391492547019?s=46

While I like that he's got very deep ties to Edmonton Football, I'm a little concerned being named President and CEO could be well above his experience level. Granted some of the best President come strictly from football. Guys like Hugh Campbell and Jon Hufnagel, but they cut their teeth at the professional level with multiple different roles before they took on the role of President and/or CEO

i cant say one way or the other, but what i will say is a word of caution to lets not have this old boys club going on.... you cant do hires based on just cause they were.... etc etc...
guess we will have to wait and find out....
the odells, grymes, sewells, all and well, but then you start to have this snowball... where maybe some arent justified? i dunno
