Why wouldn't he be here for at least a couple of years? Lots of guys in the league in his age range.
You're forgetting...a guy can be cut/re-negotiated if his production drops. Happens all the time.
All the signings you mentioned were products of other teams' systems that were brought in from elsewhere - not re-signings (and heck, most people weren't all that fired up about them coming here anyways). That thought process holds absolutely no water, unless you assume that our coaches are too dumb to take into consideration the past two years they spent working with the guy in person.
When you KNOW you have a guy that works within your team with your personnel and produces at a high level...you can afford to pay him.
Know how many LB's that are still in the league had more tackles than him last year? One. And he (R. Williams) had fewer tackles per game (91 in 17 compared to 79 in 14).
Sure, it's expensive. Known commodities are always more expensive than unknown commodities...because you have a better idea of what to expect from them. Not everyone we bring in is going to be a Sherritt.
