I saw a truly sad things today on Twitter that is an indication of just how bad things are. There was a promotion advertised on the Elks twitter feed. 4 Elks tickets with 4 rounds of golf at the Ranch for $400. I just looked up the Ranch and it costs $94 per round to golf. So essentially, that deal is giving the Elks tickets away for free. They are giving tickets away for free just to try and get people to come.

This team used to be the gold standard of the CFL and they are now the laughing stock.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

What troubles me the most is there appears to be no urgency to address the main problem. Their Oline is extremely poor to the point, it's crippling their offense. When your offense can't do anything, your defense has to be on the field more plus it puts more pressure on them. Look at the starters on the Oline again. Basically the same guys. Boyko who everyone says isn't very good, has only been here for a couple of days so he's unlikely to play so all they are doing is now playing Foucault out of position and playing a back up center at guard. So the likelihood it will be better is extremely low.

Then look at the signings. The need is at Oline so who have they brought in, in the last 2-weeks? 1 Olineman 2 days ago, 3 linebackers and 1 fullback. Where are the Olinemen? If I was in charge, I would be doing whatever I could to bring in more Olinemen even if they are American. The 4 Canadians IS NOT WORKING. So look at starting 2 Americans. How do you make the ration work? Try starting 2 Canadians at Wideout, vs 1 Canadian and 1 American. Put Forbes and Cobb as your starting wide outs, then have Mitchell, Dumbar and French/Moore as your slot back and receiver. Their QB's don't have the time to throw to your wide outs so using an American spot on a guy who will never see the ball is a waste. Until they can protect the QB, it doesn't matter who's at receiver.
I agree.... really assumed they'd play better last game.... that did not happen.. they played worse. I dont mind your idea for the receiving core at all... like you said its not like the QB gets the time to hit his wide outs anyways....'

that Oline.. i cant recall a worse one...

agree...they've shown up on the injury report... but were they actually injured....

Saskatchewan had the exact same issue last season.
The Oline is made up of pretty much the exact same guys as last year when it wasn't very good and there was a different Oline coach in place. So I agree a coach can impact the line some but think it's also a player problem.

sad isn't it. Once proud Eskimos is now converted to what ever the hell we are seeing now. Fans don't have the connection anymore... If we where the Eskimos still and this was happening - I'd believe more people would be invested with the team and still go to the games. Now as Elks those fans have no connection and now that they are crap those loyal fans to the Esks have no issues skipping a home game or 2.

If I could have one wish it would be to have the name change never happen or to have victor find a way to remove it and bring back Eskimos... could you imagine the promoting they could do with that....

The timing of the name change and the **** show we've become has made a nightmare for a really great president. Some of the ideas Victor is putting out there are outstanding but it feels like he's fighting a steep uphill battle.

Is changing the name back even an option? If I recall, the people who supposedly had an issue with the name weren't any that live north of Alberta, I think they were a group that lives north of Ontario. Maybe someone can correct that if I am wrong but I thought when the Esks supposedly did their study, groups of northern indigenous who were either in closish proximity to Edmonton or groups where the team visited their communities, they thought the name was fine, liked the name or felt like it was a honor. Any groups too far to visit supposedly were offended.

So what is it that they want? Is it money or recognition. I never once specifically associated with the northern indigenous and see it as a slur, I associated it with being about a the northern most big City in North American where the people where tough and got sh!t done in the cold. We are tough Canadians. Yeah its cold but who cares, we live here anyway and the weather isn't going to stop us.

Its probably too late to change it back but I completely agree. I have ZERO connection to this team. The Eskimos were my team as a kid. We were always good. We had a tradition. Once and Eskimo, always an Eskimo. We always made the playoffs, we were always the class of the league. We always did the right thing. We looked after players. We were what teams wanted to be. That's all dead! All those banners and championships and greats belong to the Eskimos.

The Elks are the exact opposite. All they do is lose, the GM's screw people. The organization treats the fans like crap, treats it's employees like crap. They don't give a damn about tradition. I think Victor has a next to impossible job. How do you fix a team and reputation of a team who in my opinion, the fan base feels like the organization killed off their team and spit in the face of the City that loved it.

100% AGREE never once associated the name Eskimos with the indigenous. I always took it as we are the most Northern full city and we are a hard working hearty group. Players wearing no sleeves when its ball ass cold, or the training staff always in shorts..that who I thought the Eskimos where....

Hey all, if the longest home losing streak in all pro football history wasn't bad enough, a loss tomorrow vs. Saskatchewan will tie Edmonton's 2nd longest losing streak over all (1938-39 team) and longest in 58 years (9 games).

Counting pre-season or playoff games, it already is 2nd longest ever at 10 (Record was 13 by the 1964-65 Elks).

If they can't get the win tomorrow or next Thursday, I'm pretty confident they'll match or beat the franchise record since the next three after that are WPG x 2 and BC.

                      ---

Also, they are currently on their 2nd 8 game losing streak within the last 22 month. Prior to these two 8 game streaks the team had only 4 other streaks in all its history of 8 games or longer (all eras included).

I would like to see Churchill one of these days. He has some promise. I didn’t want to see them give up on Gibbon either, but alas they did.

Interesting comment by Abbott on 3DownNation. " The Riders are banged up in the trenches , but their backups are still better than the offensive line Edmonton is fielding."

Sad, but possibly true. More coaching than personnel though, it seems.

                                You sure it's all coaching?

There sure seem to be a lot of instances where the Dline just flat out beats the Elks Olinemen. Nothing fancy just going straight ahead and beating the Elk clean. I think the whole coaching staff needs to be looked at big time but I also think there is a clear lack of quality football players which falls on the shoulders of the management staff.
